Air Fryer Deviled Eggs: Easy Appetizer For Entertaining!

Deviled eggs are a must-have for my Easter menu every year, but honestly they’re a great appetizer for a lot of occasions. They’re naturally low carb too! Now that I’ve started making air fryer deviled eggs, I think it’s even easier! There’s no boiling or even a stove required!

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

Your air fryer is actually a great tool for making hard boiled eggs, and I personally find it easier and faster than the stovetop method.

Just set them to cook, dump them in ice water, and then peel and proceed like normal to make perfect deviled eggs.

Now, I’ve got my own favorite filling recipe that was inspired from one I got from a Southern grandma over 20 years ago. That said, if you have your own favorite, you can just swap that in instead (no judgment here)!

If you don’t get your eggs quite right the first time, don’t worry! Air fryers can be very different between models so you may need to tweak it a little. However, Air Fryer Soft Boiled Eggs are the perfect topper for ramen, or you can make Air Fryer Egg Salad if yours don’t peel well!

Ingredients List

ingredients to make deviled eggs in the air fryer
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 Tbsp Miracle Whip
  • 1 Tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1 tsp prepared yellow mustard
  • ⅛ tsp of salt (or to taste)
  • Dash of black pepper (or to taste)
  • Paprika for garnish (optional)

Ingredient Tips and Substitutions

  • If you use a different size of eggs or if your eggs are not chilled, cooking times can vary. I recommend making at least one extra egg that you can check as a “tester” (at least until you’ve done it a few times and get comfortable with your specific air fryer).
  • This recipe is also easy to scale up and down, so feel free to make more or less depending on your needs (each whole egg makes 2 deviled eggs)
  • You can use all mayo or all Miracle Whip if preferred (or based on what you have). I like the blend so it’s not overly sweet
  • If you don’t have prepared mustard you can use about ⅛ tsp mustard powder instead. Feel free to sub different types of mustard as well, such as Dijon
  • Paprika is a classic garnish option, but chives are a good alternative (especially if you want a little green), or everything bagel seasoning is great too!
  • Other filling additions could include hot sauce, cooked crumbled bacon, or chopped pickles/relish if you’d like!
  • To dye your eggs add 4 drops of food coloring and 1 cup of water to a bowl. Soak the egg white halves (after removing yolks) for about 30 minutes, then drain and pat dry. This is nice if you want to dye them green for St Patrick’s Day, pastels for Easter, purple for Halloween, etc

Step By Step Instructions

  1. Place your eggs directly onto the grate in your air fryer’s basket (or on the rack in an oven style) leaving air space between them. Tip: if you have an oven safe trivet, you can use it to help prevent the eggs from rolling around during cooking

  1. Cook on the air fry setting at 250°F for 16 minutes. If your air fryer does not go that low, you can use 275°F-280°F for 15 minutes instead, or check other settings. For example, my Ninja Dual Zone has 270°F available on the ‘Reheat’ setting. Important note: Every air fryer varies and there will be some trial and error in getting them perfectly hard boiled. Make an extra test egg to check, until you’re confident in what you need for your particular air fryer
  2. Use tongs or an oven mitt (they will be hot) to transfer the eggs to an ice water bath, and let them sit for 5-10 minutes until they are cool enough to comfortably handle

  1. Peel the eggs by tapping the base end gently against a hard surface until it cracks. Use your fingers to carefully peel the shell away from the rest of the egg

  1. Slice your eggs in half lengthwise using a paring knife (or a similar sharp knife)

  1. Add the mayonnaise, Miracle Whip, mustard, salt, and pepper to the yolks in the bowl, and then use a fork to mash everything together, breaking up the yolks until a smooth paste forms. Tip: feel free to taste and adjust your seasoning levels as needed

  1. Spoon or pipe the filling back into the egg whites, dividing evenly. Then, shake paprika over the top of the eggs (or add other garnishes as desired) and enjoy!

Recipe FAQs

Are Air Fryer Deviled Eggs Easy to Make?

Air fryer deviled eggs are easy to make, requiring less time than the stovetop, and no pan required.

That said, getting hard boiled eggs just right can be tricky at first, as each air fryer is different. You’ll need to attempt yours a few times to dial in what works best for your specific unit, and then it’s smooth sailing.

How Do I Hard Boil Eggs in the Air Fryer?

To hard boil eggs in the air fryer, place the eggs directly on the rack in your air fryer’s basket. Cook at 250°F for 16-18 minutes on average, or 275°F-280°F for about 15 minutes.

If your air fryer does not have that low of an air fry setting, try other settings like Reheat or Dehydrate to see if that allows a lower temperature adjustment.

Can I Prepare the Filling for Deviled Eggs in Advance?

Yes, you can prepare the filling for deviled eggs in advance. Simply mix together mayonnaise, mustard, salt, and pepper, and store it in the refrigerator until ready to use.

Add the yolks after removing from the hard boiled eggs. Mix and then fill the egg whites with the prepared filling just before serving.

Can I Add Different Ingredients to the Deviled Egg Filling?

Yes, you can customize the deviled egg filling by adding various ingredients to suit your taste preferences.

Some popular additions include diced pickles, chopped herbs, bacon bits, or grated cheese for extra flavor and texture.

How Should I Serve Air Fryer Deviled Eggs?

Serve air fryer deviled eggs as a delicious appetizer or snack at parties, gatherings, or as a tasty addition to brunch menus.

Garnish them with paprika, fresh herbs, or additional toppings for added visual appeal.

Is It OK to Make Hard Boiled Eggs the Day Before You Make Deviled Eggs?

Yes, you can prepare and peel your hard boiled eggs a day in advance. Store in a sealed container in the refrigerator overnight.

This is a convenient way to save time when entertaining, particularly for holiday gatherings or brunch.

Recipe Pro Tips

  • It is normal for the eggs shells to come out “spotted” with brown dots after cooking. I’m honestly not sure what causes it, but the egg inside is completely fine, and most times it rinses right off during the ice bath anyway
  • As I mentioned before, the time to get your eggs hard boiled can vary between air fryers, so you’ll need to do some testing. I have an 8-qt Ninja Dual Zone air fryer and my eggs were perfectly hard boiled after 16 minutes at 270°F without preheating

Storage and Serving Tips

  • You can make the eggs up to a day in advance and store in a container in the refrigerator overnight. Then just slice, mix, fill, and serve! It’s a great time saver for holiday gatherings and brunch when you have a lot of other things to do
  • Store leftover deviled eggs in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days
  • If you are taking the eggs to a picnic or other gathering, I have an egg carrier that I love to keep them safe. You can also use regular Tupperware – just be careful setting them in so they don’t get too smushed!

Final Thoughts

Air fryer deviled eggs are my favorite way to make this classic (and naturally low carb) picnic food and appetizer! No more boiling a pot on the stove, just stick them in your air fryer and let it do all the work for you.

Does it take a few tries to learn exactly what works for your specific air fryer? Yep. Is it worth it? Also, yes. I can cook a whole batch of eggs with no fuss and no attention (or even a stove) required!

Plus, I’ve never had a problem peeling them either (but that could just be good eggs, who knows)! There are so many tricks for that out there that I’m taking zero credit in this regard.
