Why You’ll Love This Recipe

Overnight oats are a healthy and convenient make-ahead breakfast option. You can enjoy them with a spoon, or add extra liquid and they’re easy to drink on the go!

Oats are full of fiber, antioxidants, and heart-healthy ingredients, making them a great, nutritious choice. They help to keep you feeling full and give your body power to get your day started right.

The strawberries and blueberries add sweetness in the form of natural fruit sugars instead of processed ones. Plus, they offer additional antioxidants and vitamins for your body.

Best of all, you can make overnight oats the evening before (they take little time to throw together), and then just grab and go in the morning! There’s no hassle or rush, and you’re far less likely to skip. It’s just one of the many reasons I love them!

Ingredients List

strawberry blueberry overnight oats ingredients
  • ½ cup rolled or old fashioned oats
  • ¾ cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
  • 1 Tbsp chia seeds (optional)
  • 1 Tbsp agave nectar
  • ½ cup blueberries
  • ½ cup diced strawberries

Ingredient Notes and Substitutions

  • Any oats work just fine (steel cut oats are a bit thicker), so long as they aren’t instant/quick oat varieties
  • You may use a plant-based milk of choice (such as almond, macadamia, coconut, or oat milk), or swap in dairy (strawberry milk is a great choice for flavor here). Almond milk is just a very common choice, but use your favorite!
  • Agave may be swapped for honey, date syrup, or maple syrup as a sweetener if preferred
  • Other optional additions could include ½ tsp of an extract such as vanilla or almond, chopped nuts, hemp hearts or flax seeds instead of chia, or some cinnamon

Step By Step Instructions

  1. Add all ingredients to a mason jar or similar container, and stir or shake to combine

Recipe FAQs

Can I Use Frozen Berries For Overnight Oats?

Yes, you can use frozen berries for overnight oats. Since they will sit overnight, they should defrost by the time you’re ready to eat them. The additional moisture is negligible, so no adjustments need to be made.

If your berries are not defrosted when you’re ready to eat, just microwave your oats for 30-45 seconds to take the chill off.

Can You Put Strawberries in Overnight Oats?

Yes, you can put strawberries and other fresh berries in overnight oats. You should cut them into smaller pieces, though, to make them easier to eat.

Make sure to consume your overnight oats within 24 hours if it contains cut fruits for best results. Otherwise, top with the berries before serving instead.

Are Overnight Oats Gluten-Free?

Overnight oats are suitable for a gluten-free diet, so long as you use certified gluten free oats as your base. No other ingredients that are typically used in overnight oats contain gluten.

While oats are naturally gluten free, they are often processed in facilities that are not, so those that are highly sensitive may receive cross contamination.

Tips For the Best Strawberry Blueberry Overnight Oats

  • You can also layer the berries in the jar with the oatmeal mixture instead of mixing them in. I like to break the berries up a little so the taste is more distributed
  • This recipe easily doubles (or more) if you want to prepare a larger batch. Don’t add fruit immediately if you plan to eat it over several days, as it only keeps for a day or two (add fresh fruit in when ready to enjoy)!
  • If you’re drinking these overnight oats you may want to puree or mash the berries (or just blend the whole drink) instead so they don’t get caught in your straw!

Storage and Heating Tips

  • Store strawberry blueberry overnight oats in airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours (after that the fruit starts to disintegrate)
  • For longer term storage, omit the fruit. Leave plain overnight oatmeal in the fridge for up to 1 week, adding fruit right before serving
  • While cold overnight oats are great, you can also enjoy your overnight oats warm (just like a warm bowl of oatmeal). Microwave for about 1 minute on high, then stir and enjoy!

Final Thoughts

I love these amazing strawberry blueberry overnight oats. They’re so easy to make in advance, and a great way to ensure you start the day right. Overnight oats are versatile, so you can enjoy them cold with a spoon, as a drink or even warmed up like a traditional bowl of oatmeal.

Since you put them in the night before, you’ll be less tempted to skip breakfast. Oats help you feel full longer and give you the energy to really seize your day!

Plus, since they use fruit and natural sweeteners, you can feel better about them as an option over highly processed foods. Eating well can still be convenient, simple, and most of all, delicious!
