Nathan’s Bagel Dog in the Air Fryer: Coney Island Snack!

One of my favorite summer road trip snacks has always been a bagel dog, which, if you’re not familiar, is a hot dog wrapped in bagel dough. Nowadays, instead of hitting the road, I reach for the freezer. Once you’ve enjoyed a Nathan’s bagel dog in the air fryer you’ll be hooked!

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

Nathans, the famous hot dog company, happens to make versions of their popular restaurant fare available in the freezer section of your local grocery store. These bagel dogs are amazing, though a Nathan’s Pretzel Dog in the Air Fryer is equally delicious!

The appeal here is that you no longer have to venture to the mall or the Boardwalk to get your hands on this Coney Island style fare. Instead, the air fryer delivers that perfect level of browning and a juicy hot dog in under 10 minutes!

Serve them up as a snack, or a meal when paired with some other sides, like onion rings, fries, chips, or my personal favorite, mac and cheese! Don’t forget the ketchup or mustard for dipping too!

Ingredients List

packaging box of nathan's bagel dogs with the frozen contents out of the box
  • 16 ounce box frozen Nathan’s bagel dogs (4 count)

Ingredient Tips and Notes

  • Each box used to be 20 ounces (5 count) but has been reduced to 16 ounce and 4 count as of lately. If you want a larger quantity, you can try Costco, Sam’s Club, or another wholesale store
  • Currently, Nathan’s only makes full sized frozen bagel dogs with everything bagel seasoning on top (yes, it does have caraway seeds if that helps your decision). For plain, you’ll want to seek out their mini bagel dogs instead (which are a great appetizer option)!
  • Though this recipe is for Nathan’s brand, it does work for other brands as well. For example, Vienna Beef bagel dogs work just as well!

Recipe FAQs

Can You Cook Nathan’s Bagel Dogs in an Air Fryer?

Yes, you can cook Nathan’s bagel dogs in an air fryer. They can be cooked directly from frozen, with no defrosting required.

The air fryer delivers warm dough with a crispy exterior, and browns the ends of the hot dog as well.

What Is a Nathan’s Bagel Dog?

A Nathan’s bagel dog is a delicious combination of a hot dog wrapped in soft, chewy bagel dough.

They are available in the frozen foods section of most major grocery stores.

Can I Cook Nathan’s Bagel Dogs from Frozen in the Air Fryer?

Yes, you can cook Nathan’s bagel dogs directly from frozen in the air fryer without thawing.

To help with the moisture, either preheat your air fryer, or flip the dogs once during cooking.

What Temperature and Cooking Time Should I Use for Air Frying Nathan’s Bagel Dogs?

Preheat the air fryer to around 370-380°F and cook the Nathan’s bagel dogs for approximately 8-11 minutes, flipping halfway through the cooking process for even browning.

Cooking times can vary between individual air fryers, so adjust in small increments as needed to achieve the desired level of browning.

Can I Add Toppings or Condiments to Nathan’s Bagel Dogs Before Air Frying Them?

Since they are already assembled and frozen, it is difficult to add toppings or condiments prior to air frying. Additionally, they may burn or over crisp during cooking.

It is recommended to instead add toppings like cheese or condiments after cooking for best results.

Can I Cook Multiple Nathan’s Bagel Dogs at Once in the Air Fryer?

Yes, you can cook multiple Nathan’s bagel dogs at once in the air fryer, as long as they fit comfortably in a single layer in the basket without overcrowding.

Cooking time will not change for multiples, so long as there is ample space, including some air space between dogs to allow for air circulation.

Recipe Pro Tips

  • The flip is important if you are not preheating your air fryer, as this helps prevent cold spots from forming as it thaws. If you are worried about losing toppings, simply preheat the air fryer ahead of time and then you don’t need to flip them!
  • I cooked my bagel dogs in a Ninja air fryer without preheating and they were perfect after 10 minutes (verified via thermometer). If you do preheat, lower by 2 minutes to start. Other air fryers will vary slightly in terms of required time
  • Some of my frozen bagel dogs were broken in the box (which was not damaged at all). It likely won’t happen to everyone, but if you want them looking very nice, I suggest picking up some extras (just from personal experience)

Storage and Reheating Tips

  • Store any leftover Nathan’s bagel dogs in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. I do not recommend refreezing them after cooking once (it starts to affect temperature and moisture levels)
  • To reheat a bagel dog, air fry at 350°F for 3-5 minutes, until warmed through. You can also microwave for about a minute (preferably cut in half) but you’ll lose the crispy exterior to the bagel crust

Final Thoughts

These Nathan’s bagel dogs in the air fryer are the perfect snack or light meal. They go from frozen to fantastic in under 10 minutes!

Similar to their pretzel dogs, these bagel dogs are wrapped in pillowy dough that gets just the right amount of crisp in the air fryer. Add that to the caramelized all beef hot dog ends, and it’s a delicious bite!

I like to pair mine with mac and cheese (it’s a classic) but there are lots of other great side dish options to please the whole family and make it a meal.

If you don’t like the everything bagel seasoning on top, try out the mini bagel dogs (which are plain), or a different brand, like Vienna all beef bagel dogs. They’re equally tasty!
