Why You’ll Love This Recipe

With just 5 required ingredients (aside from ice and any garnishes), a drink doesn’t get much simpler than that. That’s why it only takes 5 minutes to throw together this festive cocktail, making it perfect for entertaining in the fall and around the holidays.

Tequila, triple sec, and pear syrup form the base of this cocktail, with lemon juice replacing the traditional margarita lime. That’s not to say you can’t use a lime – you do you! I just think the lemon compliments it better.

I’m using a premade pear syrup for convenience, since this one already has notes of lemon and orange that compliment a margarita perfectly! However, you can use your favorite brand, or even make your own!

Ingredients List

ingredients to make a spiced pear margarita
  • 1 ounce tequila (blanco, silver, or reposado)
  • 1 ounce triple sec
  • 3 ounces pear syrup (such as Root Au Pear)
  • ½ ounce fresh lemon juice
  • ¼ tsp cinnamon
  • Ice cubes

For the rim (optional):

  • 2 tsp granulated sugar (or decorating sugar)
  • ½ tsp cinnamon

Ingredient Tips and Substitutions

  • You can use Cointreau or another orange flavor liquor in place of the triple sec if needed
  • Lime juice may be used in place of the lemon juice, or prepared sour mix works as well
  • You can adjust the amount of cinnamon to taste. Feel free to experiment with different warm spices as well, such as ginger, cloves, or allspice!
  • Any pear syrup works fine. You can also make your own by blending a medium ripe pear (peeled and cored) with 1 Tbsp of water and straining (I think ripe pears are sweet enough to not need to add sugar)
  • Alternatively, use 1 ½ ounces of a pear brandy or spiced pear liqueur (such as St. George) and 1 ounce of regular or spiced simple syrup!
  • Garnish ideas include a slice of fresh pear, a piece of candied ginger, or a cinnamon stick

Step By Step Instructions

  1. (Optional) To rim your glass, combine the sugar and cinnamon on a plate. Dip the edge of the glass in water or run a cut pear or lemon around the outside of the rim to wet it. Then, dip the glass into the sugar cinnamon mixture

Recipe FAQs

How Do I Select the Best Pears for Spiced Pear Margaritas?

If you are choosing to make your own pear puree for your spiced pear margaritas, look for ripe but firm pears. Bartlett or Anjou pear varieties work well.

They should yield slightly to gentle pressure near the stem but not be overly soft or bruised.

Can I Make a Non Alcoholic Version of Spiced Pear Margaritas?

Yes, you can create a non alcoholic mocktail spiced pear margarita. Simply skip the tequila and triple sec, and substitute them with pear juice, a dash of cinnamon, and sweetener to taste.

Ginger beer and apple cider are other good options in place of the alcohol.

What’s the Best Way to Spice Up My Margaritas for a Unique Twist?

To add a unique twist to your spiced pear margaritas, try rimming the glasses with a mixture of cinnamon and sugar. You can also infuse your margaritas with a hint of vanilla or a cinnamon stick for added flavor.

Other warm spices can also be added, such as ginger, cloves, nutmeg, or allspice. Start with small quantities and adjust to taste.

Are Spiced Pear Margaritas Suitable for Holiday Gatherings?

Yes, spiced pear margaritas are an excellent choice for holiday gatherings, especially during the fall and winter seasons. Their warm, spiced flavors make them a festive and inviting cocktail.

They are also easy to prepare, making these drinks a great choice for entertaining.

Can I Prepare Spiced Pear Margaritas in Advance for a Party?

Absolutely! You can make a batch of spiced pear margarita mix in advance and refrigerate it. Simply scale up for as many servings as you’d like to make.

When it’s time for your party, just give the mix a stir and pour it into individual glasses filled with ice for serving.

What’s a Good Garnish for Spiced Pear Margaritas?

Garnish your spiced pear margaritas with a thin pear slice or a twist of pear peel for a touch of elegance. A sprinkle of ground cinnamon on top adds a delightful finishing touch.

Other options include a cinnamon stick, or some candied ginger.

Recipe Pro Tips

  • To enjoy a frozen spiced pear margarita, place all the ingredients (including ice cubes) into a blender and blend on high until a slushy consistency is reached. Then, pour into rimmed glasses, garnish, and enjoy!
  • If you are squeezing your own lemon for juice, I’ve found that 1 medium lemon nets approximately 2 ounces of juice, as a guideline to assist in how many to get if you plan to scale the recipe

Storage and Serving Tips

  • To make a larger batch, scale up the recipe to the desired number of servings. You can mix your margaritas in a pitcher up to 72 hours in advance. Then, simply add ice to individual glasses and pour to serve!
  • Glassware recommendations include margarita glasses (regular or stemless), champagne coupes, or cognac glasses (which remind me a little of a pear!). You can also use a pint glass or old fashioned glass in a pinch!

Final Thoughts

This easy spiced pear margarita is just perfect for fall and winter entertaining! With just 5 required ingredients and a few minutes to throw it together, you’ll get back to celebrating in no time!

You can use a variety of different pear syrups, pear liquor, or even a blended fresh pear to add that perfect fall flavor, which is complimented by warm cinnamon. That is to say, you’ve got lots of options if you don’t want to make a trip to the store!

I never mind, though, because I use leftover pear syrup to make a variety of other great cocktails, which are also perfect for fall. If you’re looking to break away from the apple and pumpkin, well, everything, then this is the perfect pear cocktail to try!
