Easy Homemade Air Fryer Sausage Rolls in Puff Pastry
These easy homemade air fryer sausage rolls wrapped in flaky puff pastry have only 3 required ingredients. They’re a perfect snack or appetizer anytime!
13Ouncepackage puff pastry dough(defrosted if frozen)
½Poundpork sausage(bulk or links)
1Largeeggwhisked
1Tspeverything but the bagel seasoning(optional)
Instructions
Preheat your air fryer to 400℉ (200℃)
Lay your puff pastry out flat (feel free to roll it a bit if need be to get it to lay flat)
13 Ounce package puff pastry dough
Cut the puff pastry sheet lengthwise into two equal sections
Split the sausage into two equal portions, then line the center of each puff pastry sheet with an approximately 1” wide strip of sausage
½ Pound pork sausage
Fold the pastry dough over top of the sausage, pinching to seal the edges together
Flip the pastry dough over so the seam is on the bottom, giving it a press so it lays flat
Using a sharp knife, score the dough of each roll about 8 times to create vents
If desired, cut the rolls into smaller pieces (or to help them fit in your air fryer). I’ve done about 2” pieces to create smaller appetizer bites, but feel free to leave them as long as you like
Brush the tops of the pastry with egg wash using a pastry brush. Then, sprinkle on everything seasoning (optional)
1 Large egg, 1 Tsp everything but the bagel seasoning
Place the sausage rolls into the preheated air fryer basket in a single layer, allowing air space between them
Air fry for 10-15 minutes at 400℉ (200℃), or until the pastry is browned and the sausage is cooked through and reads at least 160℉
Serve with your favorite dipping sauce or enjoy them on their own!
Notes
Either refrigerated or frozen puff pastry is fine. This recipe easily doubles if you want to use a larger package. You can also substitute pie crust or pizza dough if preferred
Traditionally, this recipe is made with thin (hot dog like) link sausage with the casing removed. However, bulk that’s rolled into a log is also fine as it can be tricky to find the links in the US
I typically use pre-seasoned pork sausages, like sweet Italian sausage for flavor. You could also swap in breakfast sausage for a tasty start to your day!
If you don’t want pork, substitute in any other sausage, such as chicken apple sausage, vegetarian sausage, or your favorite homemade sausage. They’re all great! Note that chicken and turkey sausages should be cooked to 165℉ instead
While not traditional, adding some spicy brown mustard to the puff pastry under the sausage adds a nice variation. Alternatively, you can always serve on the side for dipping!
You can omit the everything seasoning, or change it out for sesame seeds, poppy seeds, minced dried garlic, or anything else you’d like!
There’s no need to flip the rolls during cooking. After all, you don’t want your egg wash or seasonings getting ruined
Make sure to leave space between each roll, as the puff pastry will rise during cooking. If they’re clumped together, they’ll bake into one another
My sausage rolls were perfectly cooked after exactly 10 minutes in a Ninja Dual Zone air fryer with eight 2” rolls in each basket. Other sizes of rolls and different air fryers may vary slightly
Exact nutritional values will vary based on brand of ingredients, and substitutions or additions, and quantity consumed, so please consider this a guideline only
