Ingredients List

- 12 Fudge Stripe cookies
- 12 chocolate kisses (such as Hershey)
- ½ cup orange, green, or purple candy melts
- Sprinkles or other decorations as desired
Ingredient Tips and Substitutions
- I like the double Fudge Stripes for this, but you can use regular ones too. Other good options include: Oreo cookies, fudge dipped Oreos, brownie bites, chocolate cookies, peanut butter cookies, or anything similar
- Instead of the candy melts, you could also use white chocolate chips with liquid or gel food coloring added, or use regular melted chocolate chips for the “glue” and then add on icing or sprinkles in Halloween colors. You can use colored frosting too, but it doesn’t adhere as strong as chocolate does
- If you want to add some extra decorations, try Halloween sprinkles, pipe on a “buckle” design (use a candy piping bag or a similar), use edible glitter, or finish with a mini Halloween M&M!
Step By Step Instructions
- Add your melting wafers to a microwave safe bowl. Follow the package directions to melt them. Mine cook at half power in 30-second intervals stirring between each until melted, but it can vary by brand

- Dip the bottom of a Hershey Kiss into the melted chocolate, about ⅓ of the way up the base. Without shaking off the excess, press the Kiss onto the flat (bottom) side of a Fudge Stripe cookie. Some chocolate may drip through the hole in the cookie, so you may want to do this over parchment or a baking sheet to catch drips

- While the chocolate is still wet, add in any sprinkles or other decorations that need to “stick” – icing can be piped on later. Repeat until all cookies are assembled

- Allow the chocolate to harden. This is about 20-30 minutes at room temperature, but it can vary by temperature and humidity. I pop them in the freezer to speed it up, for about 10 minutes
- Add any icing if desired, and enjoy!

Recipe FAQs
Can I Make Witch Hat Cookies Ahead Of Time?
Yes! You can prepare them up to 2–3 days in advance and store them in an airtight container at room temperature. Just be sure to keep them in a cool, dry place so the frosting, chocolate, and candy decorations don’t melt or shift.
Can I Customize The Decorations?
Absolutely! You can use different chocolate or frosting colors for the hat bands, add candy jewels, or sprinkle on edible glitter to make each cookie unique. This makes them a fun activity for kids or a festive addition to any Halloween dessert table.
Tips For the Best Witch Hat Cookies
- If your chocolate gets too thick (it can happen when adding a lot of food coloring), add 1 tsp of coconut oil and heat it slightly to help thin it back out
- Dip the Kisses quickly, as the heat from your hands will cause them to melt (or you could hold them with tongs if preferred)

Storage and Serving
Storage Tips
- Room Temperature – Store in an airtight container at room temp for up to 5 days; keep away from direct sunlight or heat to prevent chocolate from melting
- Layer – If stacking, place parchment or wax paper between layers to keep the hats from sticking or smudging
- Refrigeration – Not necessary unless your kitchen is warm; if refrigerated, allow cookies to come to room temp before serving so the chocolate isn’t too hard
- Freezing – You can freeze them (up to 1 month) in a sealed container with parchment between layers; thaw in the fridge overnight, then bring to room temperature before serving
- Avoid Moisture – Keep away from humid environments, which can cause chocolate bloom (white streaks on the candy)
Presentation Tips
- Festive Platters – Arrange the cookies on a black or orange tray lined with parchment paper decorated with Halloween doodles or spiderweb prints!
- Mix With Other Treats – Pair them on a platter with Ghost Pretzels or Frankenstein Wafer Cookies for a fun themed assortment.
- Individual Servings – Place Halloween witch hat cookies in a festive cupcake liner or plastic bags for easy grab-and-go snacking at parties
Final Thoughts
These cute witch hat cookies are perfect for Halloween parties, for the kids and adults alike! In fact, with just a few ingredients and only a microwave needed, the kids can help assemble and decorate them too for a fun family activity.
I also love that you can make them in advance, but they also work last minute, so you can put the stress of hosting this year’s party to rest. They’re a great treat or school snack, but also look just as nice on a dessert table with other spooky Halloween treats!
