Ingredients List

- 16 ounce bag frozen Trader Joe’s turkey meatballs
- Toppings or sides as desired (as pictured: hummus, pitas, and cucumber tomato salad)
Ingredient Tips and Notes
- TJ’s turkey meatballs come with 12-14 meatballs per bag, with a serving being 2 meatballs, for a total of 6 servings per bag. You can cook as many servings at a time as you like, so long as they fit in a single layer in your air fryer
- You can serve these meatballs with a variety of sauces and sides. I like this Mediterranean-inspired bowl, but marinara sauce with pasta is a classic, or try them on a sub roll with sauce and melted mozzarella cheese!
Step By Step Instructions
- Add frozen turkey meatballs to your air fryer basket in a single layer, allowing a little air space between each one

- Cook on the air fry setting at 380°F (or 375°F, depending on your model’s settings) for 12-15 minutes, until meatballs are browned to your liking and heated through (they should be sizzling when you open the basket). I recommend pausing and shaking the basket halfway through to promote more even browning

- Serve hot, with your favorite sauces or sides!

Recipe FAQs
How Else To Cook Turkey Meatballs From Trader Joe’s?
Besides the air fryer, you can heat them in the oven (325°F for 12-20 if thawed; 30-35 if frozen), microwave (high for 2 ½ minutes if thawed, 4 minutes if frozen; rest 1 and serve), or on the stovetop (simmer in sauce for 20 minutes).
Are Trader Joe’s Meatballs Fully Cooked?
Yes! Trader Joe’s turkey meatballs are fully cooked and frozen, so you only need to heat them through before serving.
Which Trader Joe’s Meatballs Are Best?
That’s mostly a matter of taste, but the turkey meatballs are a convenient leaner option, while Trader Joe’s Italian-style and beef meatballs offer a richer, more traditional flavor. If you’re looking specifically for a quick air fryer option, the turkey meatballs are a great choice.
Tips For the Best TJ’s Turkey Meatballs
- 13 minutes is the sweet spot for me when I make TJ’s turkey meatballs in my Ninja Dual Zone air fryer (and I do not preheat). Other air fryers can vary slightly, so adjust as needed with extra cooking time!
- My air fryer is 8 qt size and can easily cook the entire bag at once (with room to spare). If you have a very small air fryer, you may need to cook in multiple batches to prevent overcrowding (which will lead to uneven cooking and browning)
- You do not need to add any oil before cooking, as the meatballs will brown just fine without it (and I don’t have any issues with sticking, either)

Storage and Reheating
Storage Tips
- Refrigerate leftovers promptly and store them in an airtight container
- Store in the fridge for up to 4 days for the best quality and flavor
- I do not recommend re-freezing the meatballs again after cooking once, as they tend to get a bit mushy
- Portion into individual servings so you can easily grab just what you need for a quick meal!
Reheating Tips
- Air fryer: Reheat at 350°F for 3-5 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through
- Microwave: Heat in 30-second intervals until warmed through. Add a splash of marinara or water to help prevent drying out
- Stovetop: Warm gently in a skillet with sauce over medium-low heat
- Oven: Cover with foil and heat at 350°F for 10-15 minutes

Trader Joe’s Turkey Meatballs Review
One of the questions I get asked a lot about any frozen prepared food is: how is it? The short answer here is, I enjoy homemade turkey meatballs a lot more, but the TJ’s ones are fine if you need a quick option for a busy night!
The air fryer does a great job of cooking them quickly, with a nicely browned outside and juicy inside (no dry turkey here)! This makes them a fast and convenient meal, which is a huge plus.
Taste wise, I find they have enough salt (for my personal tastes), but not enough of, well, anything else seasoning wise. Treat them like a blank canvas – you definitely need a sauce of some kind to jazz them up a bit.
I will say, they taste extremely turkey forward. Basically, think if you took a roasted Thanksgiving turkey and rolled it into a meatball – this would be the result. I suspect a blend of dark and white meat here based on the flavor and the juiciness.
These meatballs do contain wheat, so they’re not gluten free (and of course not vegetarian either). If you want to grab a bag for a simple meal option (one of those nights you truly don’t feel like cooking) they’re a good choice, but otherwise I’d opt for homemade. That’s my two cents!
Final Thoughts
Trader Joe’s frozen turkey meatballs are a great quick and easy meal option, for those busy nights or just when you don’t feel like cooking! I love to make them in the air fryer because it’s faster than the oven, and turns out a much better texture than the microwave.
Toss them in sauce and serve over pasta, add to a sub roll with a little melted cheese, or go Greek style with hummus, pitas, and a cucumber salad. The possibilities are endless what you can turn the simple base into!
