Trader Joe’s Apple Blossom in the Air Fryer: Easy Dessert

TJ’s apple blossoms are one of my favorite fall desserts! I mean, who can resist flaky pastry, sweet apples, and a cinnamon crumble topping, especially with a scoop of ice cream? I make my Trader Joe’s apple blossom in the air fryer for a quick and easy preparation method, right from frozen!

What Are Trader Joe’s Apple Blossoms?

Trader Joe’s apple blossoms are a popular frozen dessert item sold at the grocery chain Trader Joe’s. They consist of individually portioned pastries filled with a sweet and spiced apple filling, similar to the filling found in an apple pie, and you get two per box for under $5!

The pastry is flaky and buttery, creating a delicious contrast with the warm, gooey apple center. Apple blossoms are often described as a cross between a pie and a turnover, making them a great option for those who enjoy apple desserts but don’t want to bake an entire pie!

They can be easily heated in a number of ways. The microwave is the fastest, but is not as good texturally as the oven or air fryer. Being as the air fryer is quicker than a conventional oven and still delivers that perfect golden brown crust, that’s my preparation method of choice!

I like to serve my apple blossoms warm with a scoop of ice cream for the ultimate indulgence. While apples are normally associated as a fall flavor, typically TJ’s apple blossoms are available year round, so you can enjoy them any time you have a craving!

  • 8 ounce box Trader Joe’s frozen apple blossoms (2 per box)
  • Ice cream for serving (optional)
  • Caramel sauce for serving (optional)

Ingredient Tips and Notes

  • You can cook as many apple blossoms at a time as fit in your air fryer’s basket or rack in a single layer, so feel free to get more for a crowd (or only cook one at a time just for you)!
  • Even though I have Trader Joe’s apple blossoms, you can use other brands as well, like Chudleigh or Aldi Specially Selected apple berry blossoms
  • Great ice cream flavor pairing options would be vanilla, caramel, dulce de leche, cinnamon, butter pecan, or other similar flavors
  • I like to add some extra caramel sauce as a drizzle as well, but this is entirely optional! Caramel and apples are a classic combination, though!

Recipe FAQs

Can You Cook Trader Joe’s Apple Blossoms In An Air Fryer?

Yes, you can cook Trader Joe’s apple blossoms in an air fryer.

The air fryer provides a quick and efficient way to heat the pastry, ensuring a crisp, flaky exterior while warming the apple filling to the perfect temperature.

How Long Do You Cook Trader Joe’s Apple Blossoms In An Air Fryer?

Typically, Trader Joe’s Apple Blossoms can be cooked in an air fryer at 350°F for about 8-12 minutes.

However, cooking times may vary depending on your specific air fryer model. It’s best to check on them frequently to avoid overcooking.

Do Trader Joe’s Apple Blossoms Get Crispy In An Air Fryer?

Yes, the air fryer helps Trader Joe’s apple blossoms achieve a crispy, flaky crust, similar to what you would get from baking them in an oven.

The air circulation in the fryer creates an even crispiness on the outside while keeping the filling warm and gooey.

Can You Cook Trader Joe’s Apple Blossoms From Frozen?

Yes, you can cook Trader Joe’s apple blossoms directly from frozen in your air fryer.

You don’t need to thaw them first; the air fryer will still get them heated through with crispy edges on the pastry.

How Do Air Fryer Trader Joe’s Apple Blossoms Compare To Oven-Baked Ones?

Air fryer Trader Joe’s apple blossoms are faster to cook than oven-baked ones and often result in a crispier crust.

However, the taste and texture are very similar, making the air fryer a convenient, time-saving alternative to the traditional oven method.

Recipe Tips For the Best TJ’s Apple Blossoms

  • I do not preheat my air fryer for this recipe (if you do, drop 1-2 minutes off of cooking time). Using a Ninja dual zone air fryer, my TJ’s apple blossoms came out perfectly after 12 minutes. Note that other air fryers may vary, so add additional time in 1-minute increments as needed to adjust for your specific model
  • You do not need to add any oil to the blossoms before cooking. The crust wrapped around the apples contains enough to brown without needing any help!
  • Make sure not to overcrowd your basket. This ensures you get even cooking and browning on all sides, which is dependent on good air circulation
  • Transfer your apple blossoms from the air fryer to a plate with a flat spatula. I’ve tried tongs, and they always seem to squish and fall apart, so spatula is definitely the way to go!

Storage and Reheating Tips For Apple Blossoms

  • Store any leftover apple blossoms in an airtight container in your refrigerator for up to 4 days. I do not recommend refreezing them after they have been cooked once, since they tend to dry out and get crumbly
  • To reheat apple blossoms, air fry at 350°F for 4-5 minutes, until warmed through. This reheating method works for other brands, as well as similarly shaped desserts!

Trader Joe’s Apple Blossom Review

I made the Trader Joe’s apple blossoms using my air fryer, and here are my thoughts! First, the air fryer is a great way to cook them.

Pop the blossoms in frozen, and they cook in only 12 minutes with no preheating and no flipping (or attention at all) required! For reference, I use a Ninja Dual Zone air fryer – other models may vary slightly in terms of needed cooking time.

The crust comes out perfectly brown and it’s flaky just like a really good pie crust. It is a little delicate honestly, so use a spatula instead of tongs to transfer the blossoms to your plate!

Inside, the filling tastes just like apple pie, but I mean the good homemade version and not the cloyingly sweet store pies. The Northern Spy apples TJ’s uses are the perfect choice, since they’re sweet but still firm to give the blossoms some texture.

These apple blossoms are very apple-forward. The cinnamon is there, but it’s a light kiss and lets the flavor of the actual fruit shine through very well.

All in all, I love TJ’s apple blossoms and would highly recommend them. If you like apple pie (and apples in general), this is the perfect single-serving option. They’re easy to make, insanely delicious, and great for fall.

You can even make several of them for easy and impressive entertaining because they look adorable! I topped mine with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce and it really rounded it out for the perfect autumn dessert.

Final Thoughts

Trader Joe’s apple blossoms in the air fryer are my go-to dessert for fall. They’re so easy to prepare, with no attention required and under 15 minutes of cooking.

They come out warm, with flaky pastry crust and sweet apples, with just a hint of cinnamon for that perfect autumn flavor profile (though honestly, you can enjoy them any time since TJ’s usually has them year round).

I love to add a scoop of ice cream for an a la mode presentation, along with a drizzle of caramel sauce to really bring it to the next level. However, these apple blossoms are great on their own too, as a perfect single serving portion that’s just like apple pie.
