If you don’t have a Sonic location near you, or just don’t want to leave the house, you can still enjoy their seasonal favorite Halloween treat! That’s right, I’ve made this tasty copycat version of the Sonic Witch’s Brew slush float that you can make right at home for a spooktacular Halloween!

What is a Sonic Witch’s Brew Slush Float?
The Sonic Witch’s Brew slush float is a limited-time Halloween-themed drink introduced as a new beverage in September 2024 that’s a bewitching addition to the premium drink lineup at Sonic Drive-In locations.
This spooky drink is a layered treat that features a green apple flavored refreshing twist on their classic slush, giving it a vibrant and eerie green hue, and is topped with soft vanilla ice cream.
It also has salted caramel boba pearls, to add texture, an extra burst of flavor, and to give it bubbling potion vibes (and let’s face it, a classic caramel apple treat is one of my favorite flavor combos so it’s the perfect choice).

The result is a fun non-alcoholic drink that’s the perfect combination of sweet and sour flavors, for a themed treat that’s a deliciously fun experience, and perfect for Halloween and the spooky season!

Sonic Witches Brew Ingredients

- 1 cup ice
- ½ cup cold water
- 1 Tbsp corn syrup (optional; see notes)
- ½ tsp fresh lemon juice
- 2 Tbsp green apple syrup (Torani is closest in flavor)
- ⅛ cup salted caramel boba pearls, cooked and cooled if needed
- ¼ cup vanilla soft serve ice cream (such as Blue Bunny)
Ingredient Tips and Notes
- The corn syrup is going to be optional depending how sweet you want it. Typically, Sonic uses unsweetened flavorings on their sweetened slush base. I could only get sweetened green apple syrup, so adding the corn syrup in that case makes it extra sweet. However, if you don’t add enough sugar, the slush base freezes up more, so it’s a bit up to you how you want to balance sweetness and texture
- While Torani green apple is the closest flavor-wise, you can use another brand of green apple syrup depending on availability. Either sweetened or unsweetened works – see note above regarding the corn syrup
- Sonic uses the popping style boba pearls that are soft and burst in your mouth. However, you can also use the more rigid, chewy version, depending what you can find/prefer
- If you have a soft serve ice cream machine, you can definitely make your own! However, I do not, so I use the Blue Bunny brand soft serve in a tub and use a piping bag to mimic the machine look
How to Make Sonic Witch’s Brew Slush Float
- Add your salted caramel boba pearls to the bottom of a glass (I use a pint glass)

- To a blender, add the ice, cold water, corn syrup, lemon juice, and green apple syrup

- Blend on high until the mixture is a slushy consistency. You can add more ice to thicken or more cold water to thin if needed

- Pour the slush mixture on top of your boba pearls, and give a quick stir to distribute them throughout

- Top with the vanilla soft serve. Tip: add the ice cream to a piping bag or Ziploc with the corner cut off and pipe it on to mimic the look of a soft serve machine

- Garnish with even more salted caramel bubbles on top, and enjoy!

- Strawberry Watermelon Vodka Slush
What to Serve With a Sonic Witches Brew
To complement the Sonic Witch’s Brew Slush Float, serve some Halloween-themed treats to eat alongside your spooky sip. Here are some of my favorite ideas:
- Spooky Snacks: Serve Halloween classics like ghost-shaped sugar cookies, witch’s hat cupcakes, or candy corn trail mix. These sweet treats pair well with the tartness of the slush and the creaminess of the ice cream!
- Savory Finger Foods: Balance the sweetness with savory options like mini sliders, air fryer mummy hot dogs, or pizza pumpkins. These quick, handheld snacks can be a fun complement to the sugary drink
- Themed Candy: Offer Halloween candy such as gummy worms, candy eyeballs, or caramel popcorn for a light and spooky touch that fits the “witch’s brew” theme!
Recipe FAQs
What Makes The Witch’s Brew Slush Float Unique?
The Witch’s Brew Slush Float features green apple slush, which has been gone from the chain’s menu for quite some time. It offers a unique tart, tangy slush with creamy ice cream contrast, for an interesting mix of sour and sweet.
Both the color and look are perfect for the Halloween season, as it’s reminiscent of a magical potion or witch’s brew!
Is The Sonic Witch’s Brew Slush Float Available Year-Round?
No, the Sonic Witch’s Brew Slush Float is a limited-time offering, available only during the Halloween season.
A copycat recipe like this one is the only way to enjoy it outside of the Halloween season.
What Does The Sonic Witch’s Brew Slush Float Taste Like?
The Sonic Witches Brew tastes like a sweet, cold, tart caramel apple sundae, basically.
Tart green apple, salted caramel, and creamy vanilla are the core flavors of the float.
What Size Options Are Available For The Sonic Witch’s Brew Slush Float?
Sonic currently only offers the Witch’s Brew Slush Float in a medium size.
However, the advantage of making it at home with my copycat recipe is that you can customize the amounts for whatever size and quantity you want to make!
Recipe Pro Tips For the Best Sonic Witches Brew
- If your slushy looks a little thick, that’s totally fine. You could thin it with a little water, but honestly I prefer to keep it thick and let it melt, so it keeps the drink colder longer!
- You may want to only fill the glass halfway with slush, or layer in the boba as you go. If you fill the glass full and then try to stir, you’ll likely overflow it

Storage and Serving Tips For the Witch’s Brew Slush Float
- Due to the frozen elements of the Sonic Witches Brew, it is best served immediately
- If you have a slush machine, you could mix the apple base in advance and hold it frozen until ready to serve
Final Thoughts
Enjoy a spooky seasonal treat anytime you want with this copycat version of a Sonic Witches Brew Slush Float! The tartness of a green apple-flavored slush meets sweet caramel with a creamy vanilla finish for a unique blend of seasonal flavors that makes for a delicious combination.
This chilling drink is a great non-alcoholic drink option that captures the essence of the Halloween season! It looks like a witch’s potion or brew – after all, the cartoons always called for ‘eye of newt’ and it seems pretty spot on to me!
Thanks to this copycat, you don’t need to wait for October or November to enjoy this float. In fact, you can always skip the boba pearls and just have a green apple slushie to enjoy, which would also be perfect for St Patrick’s Day thanks to the vibrant green color!
