If you’re looking for a fun and festive no bake treat for your holiday cookie tray, look no further than these snowflake pretzels! I love the sweet and salty combination of pretzels and white chocolate, and you can customize them with fun winter sprinkles for a pretty and delicious treat.

What Are Snowflake Pretzels?
Snowflake pretzels are a festive holiday treat made by decorating pretzels with chocolate and sprinkles to resemble delicate snowflakes.
You can use pretzel sticks or twists, then assemble them with white chocolate or candy melts. Finish with decorative elements like edible glitter, sparkling sugar, or small candy pearls to enhance their wintry appearance!
Customize your design by adding flavored extracts like peppermint or caramel, or add crushed candy canes for a crunchy texture and fun look.

Pretzel snowflakes are a quick and easy no bake treat that you only need a microwave for, and require minimal ingredients and effort. The kids can even help decorate! These chocolate pretzels are perfect for holiday parties, cookie trays, or as edible gifts.

Ingredients Needed

- 48 mini pretzel twists (or 4 per snowflake)
- 1 cup white chocolate chips
- Winter sprinkles (white, blue, or silver)
Ingredient Tips and Substitutions
- You can also use seasonal pretzel shapes (like trees or stars) or the thin pretzel sticks to form your snowflakes. Swap in gluten free pretzels if need be!
- Instead of white chocolate chips you can use white candy melts or white almond bark (just follow the package directions for melting)
- I use these snowflake sprinkles and a handful of blue ones but you can use any mix of white, silver, and blue sprinkles, sugar pearls, or sanding sugar you like!
Equipment Needed
- You’ll need a microwave and microwave-safe bowl for melting the chocolate. To make life easier, use a candy piping bag to draw the snowflake design with the chocolate (or you can snip the corner off a Ziploc bag instead)
- I use a silicone baking mat for my designs since it’s reusable and easy to transfer to the fridge or freezer. However, parchment paper and wax paper both work well as alternatives (just add to a baking sheet for support)
How to Make Chocolate Snowflake Pretzels
- Add your white chocolate chips to a microwave safe bowl. Line a baking tray (or similar) with parchment, wax paper, or a silicone baking mat

- Melt the chocolate chips by cooking on high for 30 seconds. Stir, then continue to heat in 30-second increments, stirring after each, until melted and smooth. If you use candy melts, follow the package directions instead, as they may differ

- Transfer the melted chocolate to a candy piping bag (or a Ziploc) and nip off the tip

- Make a circle of chocolate about 1” wide, then 4 pretzels to the chocolate, bottoms facing each other. Repeat until all pretzels are used

- Now, pipe a plus sign, and then a slightly smaller X across the pretzels to make a snowflake design. You can add a little rounded dollop of chocolate at the end of each strip if you like. While the chocolate is still soft, add on sprinkles and gently press down so they stick

- Once decorated, let the snowflakes sit until they harden. Speed this process up by sticking them in the fridge or freezer for 15-20 minutes
- Enjoy immediately, or store in a cool, dry place for up to 1 week

Recipe FAQs
How Long Can Chocolate Covered Pretzels Last?
Chocolate covered pretzels can last for 1–2 weeks when stored properly in an airtight container at room temperature. To extend their shelf life, keep them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight or heat.
If refrigerated, they can last up to a month, but ensure they are tightly sealed to prevent moisture from affecting the pretzel’s crunch.
Can Chocolate Covered Pretzels Go Bad?
Yes, chocolate covered pretzels can go bad over time. The pretzels may lose their crunch and become stale, while the chocolate might develop a white coating (called bloom) or pick up off flavors from improper storage.
While chocolate bloom is not harmful, it can affect the taste and texture of the pretzels.
What’s the Difference Between White Chocolate and Candy Melts?
White chocolate is made from cocoa butter, milk solids, and sugar, offering a creamy, rich flavor. Candy melts, on the other hand, are confectionery coatings made primarily from vegetable fats instead of cocoa butter, with added flavor and color.
Candy melts are easier to work with for coating and shaping because they don’t require tempering, but they lack the same depth of flavor as real white chocolate.
Pro Tips For the Best Snowflake Pretzels
- It took me 1 minute total to melt my chocolate in a 1000W microwave. Times will vary between wattages and bowl sizes, so adjust accordingly
- Work quickly to add the decorations before the chocolate starts to set. I usually just pipe 1-2 at a time, add the decorations, and then repeat. If you try to do them all at once, they’ll set too much by the time you finish and come back to start adding sprinkles
- To add your melted chocolate into the piping bag (or Ziploc), you can set the bag into a drinking glass point end down and roll the top of the bag over the top edge of the glass. Then, use a spatula to add the chocolate in. I find this much easier than trying to mess around with it laying flat or holding it open with one hand!
- Don’t be shy with the chocolate piping – if it’s too thin, it will break easily. Make nice, wide strips with no weak points for the best results

Storage and Serving Tips
- Store chocolate snowflake pretzels in an airtight container in a cool, dark place for up to a week. You can also store them in the fridge for up to 2 weeks if preferred
- These candy coated pretzels are perfect served on a holiday cookie tray, or packed into tins or cello bags for gifting!
- Pretzel Wreaths
- Reindeer Bark
