If you loved the classic campfire dessert as a kid, then as an adult you’ll definitely enjoy this s’mores espresso martini! It’s all the flavors of the summer treat – chocolate, graham crackers, and marshmallow, on a boozy base of vodka and espresso for the ultimate indulgence!

What is a S’Mores Espresso Martini?
A s’mores espresso martini is a decadent cocktail that blends the flavors of a traditional espresso martini with the nostalgic taste of s’mores. It features vodka, chocolate or coffee liqueur (such as Kahlúa), freshly brewed espresso, and a touch of marshmallow syrup for added sweetness.
Serve in a martini glass with a graham cracker rim, and add a bruleed marshmallow garnish for an extra s’mores-like touch!
It’s the perfect after-dinner drink, and the adult version of the fan favorite childhood treat – did you know that 87% of Americans have tried a s’more? This version is less messy to eat, though, and no campfire (or grill) required!

Ingredients List

- 1 ½ ounces vanilla vodka (or whipped cream flavored)
- 1-2 ounces fresh espresso, cooled (or use cold brew)
- ½ ounce toasted marshmallow syrup (like Torani)
- ½ ounce creme de cacao or coffee liqueur (like Kahlua)
For the Rim
- 2 Tbsp crushed graham crackers
- A little extra marshmallow syrup (or some marshmallow fluff or chocolate syrup)
- 1 large marshmallow (optional; for garnish)
Ingredient Tips and Substitutions
- You could also use a chocolate flavored vodka here. Regular works too (though has less overall s’mores flavor). You can also substitute another liquor, like a toasted marshmallow whiskey or bourbon for some smoky notes!
- I typically use 2 ounces of cold brew espresso since I find that easiest, however you can also use freshly brewed and cooled, adjusting the amount to your personal strength preferences
- Instead of the toasted marshmallow syrup you can also use Baileys s’mores (assuming your local store has it) – it’s a perfect substitute!
- For the liqueur, I prefer the creme de cacao for the chocolate note to complete the s’more theme, but if you like a more “traditional” espresso martini, go with Kahlua or another coffee liqueur (or you could mix the two)!
Equipment Note
If you want to create a brulee marshmallow for the garnish like I do, you can toast it in a few ways. I use a kitchen torch, but you can also use the open stovetop flame if you have a gas stove.
Alternatively, a campfire or grill also works great – add the marshmallow to a stick or skewer and heat until browned to your liking!
To crush your graham crackers, you can smash them in a zippered bag, or pulse them in a food processor!
Step By Step Instructions
- Rim your martini glass by dipping the top edge in a little marshmallow syrup (or similar). Then, dip the wet edge into a plate or shallow bowl with the graham cracker crumbs, and turn to coat evenly

- To a cocktail shaker (or similar lidded container), add the vodka, espresso, chocolate or coffee liqueur, and the marshmallow syrup, along with a handful of ice

- Shake until well chilled and nicely frothy, about 30 seconds, then pour into your rimmed glass

- Garnish with a bruleed marshmallow and/or 3 coffee beans if desired (optional) and enjoy!

Recipe FAQs
What Alcohol Goes with S’mores?
S’mores pair well with sweet and rich spirits that complement their chocolate, marshmallow, and graham cracker flavors. Baileys Irish Cream, Kahlúa, bourbon, rum, and chocolate liqueurs are excellent choices, adding depth and warmth.
Flavored vodkas, such as vanilla or marshmallow vodka, also work well in s’mores-inspired cocktails like this s’mores espresso martini.
What Is the Secret to a Good Espresso Martini?
The key to a great espresso martini is the espresso, which creates a rich, foamy top when shaken vigorously. Using high-quality vodka, a balanced ratio of liqueurs, and a touch of sweetness (like the marshmallow syrup) enhances the drink’s depth.
Proper shaking with ice is crucial to achieving the signature velvety texture and thick crema on top!
What Is the Golden Rule of an Espresso Martini?
The golden rule of an espresso martini is the “hard shake” technique, which ensures the perfect frothy top. To achieve this, shake vigorously for at least 20 seconds (though I find 30 is better) using espresso and ice.
The right balance of vodka, liqueur, and espresso is also essential—too much liqueur can make it overly sweet, while too much vodka can make it too harsh.
Tips For the Best S’Mores Espresso Martini
- An espresso martini is naturally on the stronger side due to the ratio of liquors to mixers. For a weaker drink, add extra espresso, or a splash of cream or half and half to dilute it
- For a less sweet drink, you can use a sugar-free syrup, or use a marshmallow-flavored liquor instead and omit the sweetened syrup. Like the strength note above, you can also add extra mixers to help dilute sweetness too

Serving and Presentation Tips
- While a martini glass is the most common glassware option, you could serve this drink in a coupe, or a lowball glass like a rocks glass or stemless white wine glass
- Espresso martinis are best enjoyed fresh but if you want to save time, you can brew and chill your espresso in advance – just store in the refrigerator until ready to assemble the drink!
- When pouring the drink, remove the strainer from the top of your shaker if you have one, which will allow the foam to pass through (otherwise it gets caught)
- Hot Chocolate Espresso Martini
- Peppermint Espresso Martini
Final Thoughts
Sip on this toasted s’mores espresso martini recipe and you’ll be reminiscing of the classic ooey, gooey, chocolatey dessert of your childhood! With the combo of marshmallow, chocolate, and graham crackers, this cocktail is a boozy treat for the adults who are kids at heart.
I love to serve them up on warm summer nights, since they always remind me of a campfire, but honestly the s’mores flavor is great for fall and other occasions as well.
As long as you chill your espresso in advance (or just use cold brew like I do), it only takes minutes to throw the rest of the simple ingredients together, making this delicious martini a perfect cocktail for entertaining. Cheers!
