What is a Pecan Pie Martini?

A pecan pie martini is a rich, dessert-inspired cocktail designed to capture the flavors of a classic pecan pie. It features a blend of vodka, pecan-flavored liqueur, and RumChata for a creamy, nutty, and slightly sweet drink.

Of course, there are lots of different ways to customize your drink and even a lot of variations (just like the pie) so I’ll make sure to give you all the details on those too!

This cocktail is perfect for the fall and winter months, especially around Thanksgiving or holiday gatherings. I love to serve it for Thanksgiving because it just compliments the actual pecan pie that’s always on the table so well.

Plus, it’s great if you need a little “help” hanging out with the extended family! If you’re throwing a bigger party, you can serve this drink in a party shooter format as well with my Pecan Pie Shots!

Pecan Pie Martini Ingredients

ingredients to make pecan pie martini
  • 1 ounce Ole Smoky butter pecan cream liqueur
  • 1 ounce vodka
  • ½ ounce RumChata
  • 2-3 ounces half and half (depending on desired strength)

For the Rim

  • 2 Tbsp caramel sauce (amount approximate)
  • 2 Tbsp crushed pecans (amount approximate)

Ingredient Tips and Substitutions

  • I use plain vodka since the drink gets its flavor from the pecan liqueur, but you can also use pecan flavored vodka, as well as vanilla or whipped flavor if preferred
  • You can substitute another pecan-flavored liqueur instead of the Ole Smoky depending what your local store has available
  • Instead of RumChata, you can substitute Bailey’s Irish cream instead

Pecan Pie Martini Variations

  • Bourbon Pecan Pie Martini. Swap the vodka for a bourbon of choice. One with pecan notes or pecan wood aging is a great touch!
  • Chocolate Pecan Pie Martini. Instead of the Rumchata, use creme de cacao or another chocolate-flavored liqueur to create a version that’s like a chocolate pecan pie!

How to Make a Pecan Pie Martini

  1. Rim your martini glass by first dipping the top edge in caramel sauce, and then into the crushed pecans (I use plates or shallow bowls to hold both), turning to coat

Recipe FAQs

How Do You Make The Perfect Rim For A Pecan Pie Martini?

To create the perfect rim, dip the glass in melted caramel, caramel sauce, or maple syrup, then roll it in finely crushed pecans, with added brown sugar, and/or cinnamon if desired.

This gives the cocktail an extra layer of sweetness and texture that complements the drink’s flavors.

Can You Make A Pecan Pie Martini Without Pecan Liqueur?

Yes, if you can’t find pecan liqueur, you can substitute it by using additional vodka and mixing in pecan-flavored syrup, which is often used for coffee.

This will give you a similar pecan pie flavor profile. Usually 1-2 tsp of pecan flavored syrup is enough, but you can adjust the amount for your personal tastes. Both regular and sugar-free varieties work fine!

When Is The Best Time To Serve A Pecan Pie Martini?

Pecan pie martinis are popular during the fall and winter, particularly around Thanksgiving and Christmas.

They make a great dessert cocktail to enjoy after a holiday meal, and pair well with other traditional desserts that are pecan, caramel, chocolate, or bourbon-flavored.

What Pairs Well With A Pecan Pie Martini?

This rich, dessert-like cocktail pairs well with other sweet dishes, like pumpkin pie, pecan pie, or chocolate desserts.

You can also serve it with salty snacks like pretzels and roasted nuts to balance the sweetness.

Recipe Pro Tips For the Best Pecan Pie Martini

  • To get finely crushed pecans for the perfect rim, I recommend running them through a food processor if you have one. You could also put them in a Ziploc and hit them with a mallet or similar, but the food processor is faster and more consistent

Pecan Pie Martini Storage and Serving Tips

  • A martini glass, whether traditional or stemless, is the most common glassware for a pecan pie martini. However, you could also use a coupe or a white wine glass in a pinch
  • Additional garnishes are optional, but I like a dollop of whipped cream and a pecan half for a little extra pie feeling!
  • I find this cocktail is best enjoyed fresh. However, you could mix the alcohols in advance and store in a pitcher in the refrigerator. Add the half and half and stir well before pouring into individual glasses for serving

Final Thoughts

This pecan pie martini is such a perfect cocktail for Thanksgiving, because it’s just like pecan pie in a glass! Of course, that’s not to say you can’t enjoy it all fall or winter, since it’s absolutely delicious too.

It’s a decadent, dessert-like drink loaded with pecan flavor on a neutral vodka base, for an easy sip that’s sure to be a crowd pleaser. Serve it up as dessert, or alongside the dessert table, since it pairs well with chocolate, caramel, bourbon, and nut-based treats!

I love this mixed drink with a Cinnabon Caramel Pecan Roll in the Air Fryer for a fast option that makes for a low-stress dessert (you know, when you’re tired from all that holiday baking already)!
