Mummy Hot Dogs in the Air Fryer: Easy Halloween Meal!

For a spooky Halloween treat, I love to make mummy hot dogs in the air fryer! These pigs in a blanket are kid and adult approved, quick to make, and the air fryer does such a nice job of getting those perfectly browned edges on the hot dogs and the crescent dough.

Mummy hot dogs are a spooky and undead twist on classic Air Fryer Crescent Dogs (also known as pigs in a blanket) that are made for Halloween. They consist of hot dogs wrapped in crescent roll dough (or puff pastry) strips to resemble mummies.

The dough is wrapped around the hot dog in a way that mimics mummy bandages, leaving gaps for “eyes,” which are added using dots of mustard, or small edible decorations like candy eyes.

This is one of my favorite Halloween party recipes because both kids and adults love them, and they’re so easy to make! Cooking time is under 10 minutes thanks to the air fryer, for a quick and convenient spooky meal that works for lunch and dinner!

Mummy Hot Dog Ingredients

  • 8 ounce can crescent rolls (I prefer the sheet style)
  • 8 hot dogs (choose your favorite)
  • Mustard

Ingredient Tips and Substitutions

  • You can also use the regular crescent dough, but you’ll need to pinch the seams together, so using the sheet style saves time. Feel free to sub puff pastry dough if preferred!
  • If you’d like to use mini hot dogs instead, use 2 strips of dough per dog, and start with 5 minutes of cooking time to make mini mummy dogs!
  • For the eyes, you can use any kind of mustard you like, or sub ketchup, or even candy eyeballs if you’d like (I just find the eyes too weirdly sweet and crunchy with the savory dish)
  • Cheese Variation. To make a cheese stuffed variation, you’ll need 2 slices of cheese (American or cheddar works best) and add ¼ slice on top of each hot dog before wrapping. I usually don’t do this since it makes it messy as the cheese melts, which I feel takes away from the overall look, but it’s definitely an option if you like!

How to Make Air Fryer Mummy Dogs

  1. Roll out your crescent dough sheet (pinch the seams if you’re not using the sheet style). Cut it into 4 even rectangles (one cut through the center lengthwise and then widthwise), and then cut each rectangle into 10 strips (about ¼” wide)

  1. Wrap each hot dog in 3-4 strips of dough, stretching the dough as you go and making crisscross designs to look like bandage wraps. Leave an opening near one end for the “face” so you can add on your eyes later. Tip: don’t get your dough thicker than 2 pieces when crisscrossing, or else it gets too thick to cook through

  1. Place the mummy dogs into your air fryer’s basket or rack in a single layer, allowing air space between each one. Tip: you can use perforated parchment under them to make for easier cleanup and release, but this is optional

  1. Cook on the air fry setting at 325°F – 330°F (depending on available settings) for 6 minutes. Then, carefully flip and cook an additional 1-3 minutes until the dough is golden brown and the edges of the hot dogs are browned to your liking
  2. Use a condiment bottle or a toothpick to add dots of mustard for the “eyes” on each mummy dog, and enjoy!
