What is Microwave Peach Crisp?

A microwave peach crisp is a quick and easy dessert made by cooking sliced peaches topped with a crumbly mixture of oats, sugar, butter, and spices in a microwave.

Not a fan of oats? Then check out my microwave peach cobbler recipe instead, which has a Bisquick based topping with no oats.

The microwave allows the peaches to become tender and juicy while the topping becomes slightly crispy, providing a convenient and fast way to enjoy a warm peach dessert.

It’s not exactly the same texture as you can expect from baking your crisp in the oven, but it’s still equally delicious and is ready in a fraction of the time, so it’s a convenient option for sure!

If you’re missing that baked texture but still don’t want to have to turn on the oven in the heat of summer, try my air fryer peach crisp recipe instead!

Recipe FAQs

How Does a Microwave Peach Crisp Differ from a Traditional Peach Crisp?

A microwave peach crisp is made using a microwave instead of an oven, which significantly reduces cooking time and makes it a convenient option for a quick dessert.

However, while the topping gets slightly crisp, it does not brown or offer the same toasted flavors as cooking in the oven or air fryer. It is still delicious and at least similar enough to make it a worthwhile shortcut option!

What Are the Benefits of Making Peach Crisp in the Microwave?

The benefits include a shorter cooking time and less energy usage, which keeps your home cool in the summer.

It also allows you to prepare a single serving or a small batch without the need for a large oven.

Can I Use Frozen Peaches for a Microwave Peach Crisp?

Yes, you can use frozen peaches for a microwave peach crisp.

Thaw and drain them well to avoid excess moisture that can make the crisp soggy.

What Type of Topping Is Used for a Microwave Peach Crisp?

The topping consists of oats, sugar, butter, flour, and spices, which become slightly crispy when cooked in the microwave.

For comparison, a cobbler includes a biscuit-like dough instead, whereas a crumble has the same streusel-like topping as a crisp, but without the oats.

How Long Does It Take to Cook a Microwave Peach Crisp?

It generally takes between 3 to 5 minutes to cook a microwave peach crisp. For fresh peaches, cooking the fruit alone for about 5 minutes is recommended to pre-soften the fruit.

Exact cooking times can vary depending on the power of your microwave and the size of the portion.

Can I Make a Gluten Free Microwave Peach Crisp?

Yes, you can make a gluten free version by using certified gluten free oats and a gluten free flour substitute for the topping.

Ensure that your other ingredients are certified as gluten free as well, as cross contamination is possible during production even in naturally gluten free items.

What Kind of Dish Should I Use for a Microwave Peach Crisp?

Use a microwave-safe dish that can withstand high heat, such as a ceramic or glass bowl, to ensure even cooking and prevent damage to your microwave.

Generally, anything between 0.5-qt and 1.5-qt is a suitable size for this crisp recipe.

Microwave Peach Crisp Recipe Tips

  • You can divide this recipe into individual single servings if preferred. Use 4 mugs or microwave safe ramekins, and reduce cooking time to 1-2 minutes per mug for the fruit, and 2-3 minutes for the topping to set
  • The peaches will be very hot after cooking. Use oven mitts to grab the bowl, and allow it to rest for a few minutes before serving

Storage and Serving Tips for Peach Crisp

  • Store any leftover peach crisp in an airtight container in the microwave for 2-3 days
  • To reheat, microwave a portion of peach crisp on a plate or in a bowl for about 1 minute on high, until warmed through
  • Toppings are optional for serving, but whipped cream, vanilla ice cream, and caramel sauce are all great options

Final Thoughts

This insanely easy microwave peach crisp features fresh peaches and a buttery oat topping for a delicious dessert. Best of all, it cooks up in only about 10 minutes, and there’s no oven required!

That’s perfect for the heat of the summer (which peaches are best), since this version won’t heat up the house. Of course, it’s not quite the same as a baked or air fried version, but you can’t beat the convenience and it still tastes amazing!

I love no bake desserts because they’re such time savers, but they’re also great for small living arrangements where you don’t have access to an oven, like RVs, dorms, and small apartments.
