Easy Microwave Baked Peaches With Fresh Peaches

Sometimes, you have a hankering for something sweet, but you don’t want to take a lot of time to make something elaborate. When that happens to me, I just make these easy microwave baked peaches! They’re simple, perfect topped with a scoop of ice cream, and a great summer dessert!

What Are Microwave Baked Peaches?

Microwave baked peaches are a quick and easy dessert made by cooking fresh peach halves in a microwave. Canned peach halves may also be substituted when fresh are out of season, or if you don’t want to pit them yourself!

The peaches become soft and tender after cooking, complemented with the use of brown sugar, cinnamon, and butter for a delicious bite. Are they super fancy? Not at all. But are they comforting and delicious? Yes!

While you won’t get the same level of browning and caramelization that you will in the oven or air fryer, this method is an extremely fast and convenient alternative! Plus, it won’t heat up the house like the oven in the heat of the summer as an added bonus.

If you’re missing the browning and caramelization, though, check out my air fryer grilled peaches instead. They’re still faster than the oven (though slower than this microwave version), but provide a nice middle ground if you want browned edges on your fruit.

Microwave Baked Peaches Ingredients

ingredients to make microwave baked peaches
  • 2 medium peaches, halved and pits removed (leave the skins on)
  • 1 Tbsp salted butter
  • 1 Tbsp brown sugar
  • ½ tsp cinnamon

Ingredient Tips and Substitutions

  • Choose peaches that are nearly-ripe or just-ripe (not overripe) for best results when halving them. Cut all the way around the center of the peach, then twist the halves in opposite directions to separate
  • You can also substitute canned, drained peach halves if you want to avoid having to prepare your own!
  • Instead of the brown sugar, feel free to use another sweetener of choice, like granulated sugar, honey, or maple syrup
  • Feel free to add other toppings you might like, such as toasted nuts, oats (quick), raisins, or other dried fruits
  • This recipe can easily be scaled up or down if you want to make an individual serving or prepare for a group. I usually adjust cooking time by about 30 seconds (up or down) per peach added or subtracted, and then adjust from there

How to Make Microwave Baked Peaches

  1. Clean and halve your peaches, then place them into a microwave safe baking dish. You can also use a plate, but I like a dish with sides to help keep them from tipping

  1. Place your peach-filled dish into the microwave and cook on high for 2 minutes (or until they pierce easily with a fork)
  2. Serve warm, topped with ice cream (I use butter pecan) or whipped cream if desired!

Recipe FAQs

How Long Do Microwave Baked Peaches Take To Cook?

Microwave baked peaches typically take about 1-3 minutes to cook.

This time can vary depending on the power of your microwave and the ripeness, size, and quantity of the peaches.

Can I Use Canned Peaches For Microwave Baked Peaches?

Yes, you can use canned peaches, but fresh peaches are generally preferred for a better texture and flavor.

Make sure to choose canned peach halves, and that they are packed in juice instead of syrup for best results if you use canned.

What Ingredients Can Be Added To Microwave Baked Peaches?

Common additions include sugar, cinnamon, honey, and butter.

You can also add a splash of vanilla extract or a sprinkle of granola for extra flavor and texture.

Are Microwave Baked Peaches Healthy?

Microwave baked peaches can be a healthy dessert option, especially if you limit added sugars and use fresh, ripe peaches.

When using fresh peaches, you leave the skins on, which helps to add in fiber, antioxidants, and natural vitamins as well.

What Can I Serve With Microwave Baked Peaches?

Microwave baked peaches can be served with ice cream, whipped cream, or yogurt.

You can also serve them on top of pancakes or waffles.

Do I Need To Peel The Peaches Before Microwaving?

Peeling is optional. Most people prefer the texture and nutrients of the skin, which does soften during cooking.

However, if you prefer the smoothness of peeled peaches due to texture, you certainly can peel them.

What Type Of Dish Should I Use For Microwave Baked Peaches?

Use a microwave-safe dish that allows the peaches to lay flat in a single layer for even cooking.

This can be a plate or shallow bowl, but if you have a casserole or baking dish with higher sides that can add more stability, choose that instead.

Microwave Baked Peaches Recipe Pro Tips

  • If your peaches are very small, feel free to use an extra (I did 3 today because two of mine were very tiny)!
  • Make sure to pour any sauce left in the bowl over the top of the peaches before serving (it’s delicious)!
  • I cooked one peach half solo (my dish was slightly too small for 6 halves) and it was done after 1 minute
  • Times are based on a 1000W microwave. Note that cooking times can vary slightly by microwave wattage, peach size and variety, and number of peaches, so adjust in small (30-second) increments as needed until yours cook through

Storage and Reheating of Baked Peaches

  • Store leftover baked peaches in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days
  • Reheat in the microwave for about 30 seconds (or until warm to your liking) before serving

Final Thoughts

These easy microwave baked peaches have just 4 ingredients (though of course you can add other toppings as desired). They may not be a super elegant dessert, but they’re incredibly tasty and cook in just 2 minutes, so you can’t go wrong!

The microwave is perfect for cooking peaches in the heat of the summer since it won’t heat up your house. It’s also a great alternative if you don’t have an oven (like a dorm, RV, or small apartment)!

Baked peaches come out sweet, juicy, and just begging to be topped with a scoop of ice cream for a dessert that’s fast, simple, and delicious. I also love that it’s a recipe made easily for one person, but you can scale it up for the family, so it’s versatile for anyone!
