Ingredients List

ingredients to make melted snowman bark
  • 11 ounce bag white chocolate chips (or white melting wafers)
  • 5 mini Reese’s peanut butter cups, cut in half vertically
  • 10 pretzel sticks, broken in half
  • 20 candy eyeballs
  • 30 mini M&Ms
  • 10 triangular orange fruit strip slices (I cut them from about ¼ of one Welch’s peach fruit strip)

Ingredient Tips and Substitutions

  • The white chocolate is perfect for the “snow” coloring, but you can also use almond bark (it’s just a bit off white)
  • Instead of mini Reese’s peanut butter cups for the hats, you can also use black licorice gumdrops
  • You can use gluten-free pretzel sticks if needed – no problem!
  • Instead of candy eyeballs, you can also use mini chocolate chips, black mini candy pearls, or dot on some melted milk or dark chocolate with a toothpick instead
  • Adding a mouth is optional, but you could use chocolate jimmies or black mini candy pearls for that if you like
  • The mini M&Ms can be any color you like. You can also swap in red hots, mini gum drops, any similar candies, or even dots of frosting
  • For the nose, you can also use carrot shaped candies, cut orange Starbursts, orange Tic Tacs, or orange sprinkles
  • Other customization options can include sour belt “scarves”, earmuffs made from red licorice and gumdrops, or even a white chocolate truffle or large marshmallow cut in half and added in to make the snowman’s head 3D!

Step By Step Instructions

  1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. I also recommend gathering and cutting/preparing all your decorative elements for ease of assembly later
  2. Add your white chocolate chips to a microwave-safe bowl. Cook on high for 1 minute, stir, then cook in additional 30-second increments, stirring after each, until smooth and fully melted

  1. Drop spoonfuls of melted chocolate onto the parchment paper, making sure to leave space between each one. I usually do about 1 ½ Tbsp per snowman – you can do more or less as desired, but the number of toppings needed will vary. You can shape them a bit with the back of the spoon, but since they’re “melted” you don’t need to make them perfect by any means!

  1. While the chocolate is still wet, decorate by adding in a half Reese’s (cut side down) at the top for the hat, two candy eyes underneath that, a small piece of fruit strip for the nose (plus any mouth you want to add), then add two pieces of pretzels for the arms and 3 mini M&M buttons down the center. The more skewed and messy they are, the more fun, so have the kids help!

  1. Pop them in the fridge or freezer for 15-20 minutes to harden, then store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place (or in the fridge is fine too). Enjoy!

Recipe FAQs

Do I Need to Temper the Chocolate for Melted Snowman Bark?

No, tempering isn’t required for this type of bark. Since it’s a fun, rustic-looking treat, a simple melt-and-pour method works perfectly. Just microwave in short bursts and stir well to avoid scorching.

Can I Make Melted Snowman Bark Ahead of Time?

Yes, this bark is very make-ahead friendly. It keeps its texture and color well for several days when stored in an airtight container, making it perfect for parties, gifting, or holiday dessert boards.

Can Kids Help With This Recipe?

Absolutely! This is one of the most kid-friendly holiday treats you can make. Since there’s no baking involved, kids can help with decorating, placing the candy pieces, and assembling the snowmen faces. Just handle the melted chocolate for them, and they can do the rest.

Tips For the Best Melted Snowman Bark

  • If you don’t want to make individual snowmen, you can absolutely make a solid sheet of bark instead! Simply spread the white chocolate across your parchment, then add the snowman decor evenly across it. Once set, break into jagged pieces for a more deconstructed snowman look!
  • I don’t find the need to add anything to the chocolate for making bark, but you can add 1 tsp of coconut oil or vegetable shortening while melting to make it smoother if your chocolate is too thick or seizes
  • Depending on how many you make and how quickly you work, you may need to reheat your chocolate for 30 seconds or so to loosen it back up if it starts to set. I recommend decorating as you go (it’s easier to reheat the base chocolate than to try to get decorations on already-hardened chocolate)

Storage and Presentation

Storage Tips

  • Room-Temperature Friendly: Store the bark in an airtight container at room temperature for 4–5 days (use wax paper between layers to prevent sticking). The chocolate stays crisp and the candy decorations hold their shape best this way
  • Refrigeration Option: If your kitchen runs warm (from all that holiday baking), refrigerate the bark in a sealed container. It will keep for up to a week, though the candy pieces may become slightly sticky
  • Avoid Humidity: Moisture can cause chocolate to bloom (develop white streaks), so keep the container sealed and away from steam or heat sources
  • Freezer Storage: You can freeze it for longer storage, up to 2 months, just be aware that some candies may crack or discolor when thawing

Presentation Tips

  • Use Winter-Themed Platters: Present the bark on a white or light-blue serving tray to create a frosty, playful backdrop!
  • Add Edible Glitter or Sprinkles: A touch of shimmer elevates the snowy look without changing the flavor
  • Gift-Giving Friendly: Package pieces in clear treat bags tied with ribbon. The visible snowman faces make these especially charming for neighbors, teachers, and kids’ holiday parties!
  • Nutter Butter Snowmen
  • Tipsy Snowman Drink

Final Thoughts

This melted snowman bark is so cute, and a great alternative to all the cookies during the holiday season. It’s the perfect make ahead no bake option, great for gifting, dessert trays, or just for a treat for yourself during the busiest time of the year.

I love that they’re so customizable, using different decorative elements and swirls of chocolate to make each one unique and fun. Plus, this is a great recipe for the kids to help with decorating, so it’s an activity that the whole family can enjoy making and eating!
