Ingredients Needed

- 2 oz tequila (Blanco or silver)
- 1 oz fresh lime juice
- ½ oz triple sec (or another orange liqueur like Cointreau)
- ½ oz lavender syrup (such as Torani)
For the Rim
- 1 fresh lime wedge
- 1 Tbsp sea salt (or granulated sugar)
Ingredient Tips and Substitutions
- While I think silver or blanco tequila is best to compliment the floral notes, you can experiment with your favorite tequila, such as Anejo or even Mezcal to create different flavor profiles!
- Fresh lime juice is truly best, but you can use bottled in a pinch. You can also substitute lemon (see my variations notes below)
- I prefer a salt rim given the sweeter, floral notes in this drink, but you can use sugar if you want a sweeter option (or omit altogether). Feel free to add some dried lavender to the rim of your glass too!
- For a stronger lavender flavor, you can add up to 1 ounce of syrup (but floral flavors can overpower quickly, so start low and adjust up to taste)!
Variations
- Lemon. Use lemon juice instead of lime to create a lemon lavender margarita
- Coconut. Swap in a coconut tequila (I like 1800 coconut tequila) for a coconut lavender margarita variation
- Blackberry. Swap ½ ounce of the tequila out for a blackberry liqueur (like blackberry brandy, blackberry schnapps, or creme de cassis) for a blackberry lavender margarita
- Honey. Add 1 Tbsp lavender honey (or 1 tsp honey and ¼ ounce lavender syrup) to the drink to make a honey lavender margarita
- Blueberry. Use ½ ounce each of blueberry and lavender syrup, or use ½ ounce blueberry liqueur (such as Dekuyper) and drop the tequila to 1 ½ ounces to make a blueberry lavender margarita. You can also use a blueberry puree – see my Blueberry Lemon Drop Martini for instructions on how to make your own!
Step By Step Instructions
- Rim your glass by running a lime wedge around the outside of the top edge to wet it. Then, dip the wet rim into a plate or shallow bowl with the sea salt (or sugar) and turn to coat

- Add the tequila, lime juice, triple sec, and lavender syrup to a cocktail shaker (or similar) along with a couple ice cubes. Additionally, fill your rimmed glass with ice

- Shake until the drink is well chilled and lightly frothy, about 15 seconds, then strain into the prepared glass

- Garnish with a slice of fresh lime or a sprig of lavender (optional) and enjoy!

Recipe FAQs
Does Tequila Go With Lavender?
Yes, tequila pairs beautifully with lavender. The floral notes of lavender balance the earthy, citrusy qualities of tequila, especially when combined with lime juice and a touch of sweetness.
It creates a refreshing and aromatic twist on a classic margarita!
What Alcohol Pairs Well With Lavender?
Lavender complements a variety of spirits, including gin, vodka, tequila, and even champagne.
Gin and lavender are especially popular together due to gin’s botanical profile, but tequila brings out a more vibrant, zesty contrast that works well in margaritas.
Is Lavender Safe for Cocktails?
Yes, culinary-grade lavender is safe for use in cocktails. I prefer to use a premade syrup, but if you use real lavender, it’s important to use dried or fresh lavender that’s specifically labeled for culinary use to avoid pesticides or non-edible varieties.
A little goes a long way, as the flavor can become overpowering if overused!
Tips For the Best Lavender Margarita
- I usually get about 1 ounce of lime juice from one medium lime. If you plan to scale the recipe, this is a good reference point (but I always pick up a couple extras in case I get a “dud” without much juice)!
- You can make a frozen version of this margarita by blending it with about 1 cup of ice for a cold and refreshing variation!

Serving and Presentation Tips
- Instead of a margarita glass, this recipe is actually best served in a lowball glass, like a rocks glass, whiskey glass, or old fashioned glass (or even a stemless wine glass)!
- You can mix everything together in a pitcher (scale for number of servings) and store in the fridge for up to 24 hours to make it easy for a party! Add to rimmed, ice-filled glasses for serving
