Ingredients List

- 36 mini twist pretzels
- 1 ½ cups white chocolate chips
- 72 candy eyeballs
Ingredient Tips and Substitutions
- The mini pretzel twists work best for this (feel free to substitute gluten-free). If you use a larger pretzel twist, you’ll need to add extra chocolate to fill the space and hold up the eyes. You can also dip pretzel rods instead if preferred!
- Instead of white chocolate chips, you can also use about 8 ounces of white candy melts, or white almond bark
- The candy eyeballs are so fun for this, but you can also use mini chocolate chips, mini M&Ms, or icing instead
Step By Step Instructions
- Line a cookie sheet (or similar flat surface) with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat
- Add your white chocolate chips to a microwave-safe bowl. Cook on high for 1 minute, stir, then cook in additional 30-second increments, stirring each time, until melted and smooth. If you use melting wafers, follow the package directions, as they may differ

- Dip your pretzels into the melted chocolate, flipping to make sure both sides are coated. Shake off excess chocolate (you want the bottom hole to look like an open mouth so it shouldn’t be filled in), then transfer the dipped pretzels to the baking sheet (I recommend a fork for this). While the chocolate is still melted, add a candy eyeball into the two upper loops of the pretzel. Repeat until all are assembled

- Cool until solid – I usually pop them in the freezer for 10-15 minutes to speed things up. Room temperature generally takes about 30 minutes, but can vary by temperature and humidity levels
- Store in an airtight container for up to 1 week. Enjoy!

Recipe FAQs
Can I Make These Ahead Of Time?
Yes, ghost pretzels can be made a few days in advance. Just store them in an airtight container at room temperature to keep them fresh and crunchy.
Do Chocolate Pretzels Go Bad?
Chocolate-covered pretzels will eventually lose their crispness, but if stored properly, they last about 1–2 weeks. Keep them away from heat and moisture to prevent the chocolate from melting or the pretzels from getting stale.
Can I Use Different Coatings Besides White Chocolate?
Absolutely! You can dip the pretzels in candy melts, yogurt coating, or even tinted white chocolate to create colorful or themed ghosts or other monsters. This makes them easy to customize for any Halloween party vibe!
Tips For the Best Ghost Pretzels
- Feel free to add 1 Tbsp coconut oil in with your white chocolate – it will thin it slightly and make dipping a little easier. This isn’t strictly necessary, but if you find the chocolate too thick, it’s a nice option to have
- This recipe scales easily if you want to make a larger or smaller batch. You won’t use 100% of the chocolate you melt (I just don’t like the bowl to get too low, as it makes getting an even coating difficult)
- If you have drips around the edges of the pretzels (totally normal) just let it harden and then break it off with your fingers or carefully pare with a knife. Alternatively, just leave it there to give your ghosts extra character!
- A pair of kitchen tweezers can be useful in placing the eyes, but you can also use your fingers. Try to center them as best as possible when placing them so they don’t turn sideways (but even if they do, they’re just charming and still delicious)! You could also add a little extra chocolate to the cavities to give them a firmer base to sit on

Storage and Presentation
Storage Tips
- Airtight Container: Store ghost pretzels in an airtight container at room temperature in a cool, dry place for up to 1–2 weeks
- Avoid the Fridge: Don’t refrigerate them, as moisture can cause the pretzels to soften and the chocolate to sweat
- Layer Carefully: If stacking, place parchment or wax paper between layers to prevent the faces from smudging
- Make-Ahead Friendly: You can prep them 2–3 days before a party without losing freshness!
Presentation Tips
- Spooky Bowls or Platters: Serve them in black or orange bowls, cauldrons, or tiered trays for a Halloween-ready look!
- Edible Display: Mix them into a Halloween snack mix with popcorn, candy corn, and mini marshmallows
- Party Favors: Package them in clear treat bags tied with festive ribbon and add a “Boo!” tag!
- Dessert Board: Arrange them alongside cookies, candies, and cupcakes for a themed Halloween dessert spread, or pair with savory items for a char-boo-terie board!
