This frozen Texas toast air fryer recipe makes a simple side of garlic bread easy and delicious. The thick toast cooks up perfectly with a little crisp on the outside and a soft center. Itβs ready for the table in under 10 minutes, and doesnβt require turning on the oven.

Why You Need This Recipe
Texas toast is delicious! The frozen version is basically a thick garlic bread thatβs bursting with butter, garlic, and a touch of parsley. It pairs well as a side to a variety of dishes, from soups to barbecue to Italian food.
Itβs traditionally baked in the oven or toaster oven, but the air fryer is where itβs at. Not only is the cooking time similar, the preheat is way shorter, and you donβt have to heat up the house with the oven. Thatβs especially nice in the summertime!

Youβll get that nicely browned and toasty outside, with soft and warm bread inside. Thatβs all straight from your freezer, too β thereβs no defrosting required. I love having some on hand for a quick and easy side.
What You Need: Ingredients

- Frozen Texas toast, such as New York Bakery
Ingredient Tips and Notes
- You can use regular frozen Texas toast, or the 5 cheese version. The only change to cooking is that you donβt flip the cheese-covered one (or else youβd lose your cheese!)
- Feel free to add some shredded cheese to the top of plain garlic Texas toast in the last 1-2 minutes of cooking to make your own cheesy version! Cheddar and mozzarella work great!
- Any brand is fine. New York Bakery brand is popular and widely available in grocery stores, but you can find others by Pepperidge Farm, Market Pantry (Target), Great Value (Walmart), and Katz (who has a gluten free option as well)
How to Cook Frozen Texas Toast in the Air Fryer
- Preheat your air fryer to 350Β°F
- Remove the frozen Texas toast from all packaging and place into the preheated air fryer basket in a single layer

- Cook on the air fry setting for 6 minutes at 350Β°F, flipping halfway (donβt flip if youβre using the cheese bread version)
- If additional browning is desired, add up to 4 more minutes in 1-minute increments until preferred shade is achieved
- Serve hot

Recipe FAQs
Can You Air Fry Frozen Texas Toast?
Yes, you can absolutely air fry frozen Texas toast. It does not need to be defrosted ahead of time.
While the time is about the same as cooking it in the oven, the air fryer preheats much faster and keeps your house much cooler when compared to a conventional oven.
How Long to Cook Frozen Texas Toast in the Air Fryer?
On average, you cook frozen Texas toast in the air fryer for 6-10 minutes. The exact time will vary based on the brand and thickness of your toast, as well as your specific air fryer.
Use small increments of time after 6 minutes and check frequently to prevent over browning.
What Temperature Do You Cook Frozen Garlic Bread in the Air Fryer?
You cook frozen garlic bread, such as Texas toast, in the air fryer at 350Β°F (about 175Β°C). This is the ideal temperature to cook the bread without drying it out or burning it.
If youβd like it less browned, you can drop the temperature to 330Β°F and cook 2-3 more minutes.
Are You Supposed to Flip Texas Toast?
It helps to promote even browning on both sides if you flip Texas toast, so it is therefore recommended. However, if you are making Texas toast with cheese, then you should not flip it, as this would result in the loss of the cheese.
When you do not flip it, you tend to get less browning and a softer spot on the side that was facing down.
Is Texas Toast Already Cooked?
Yes and no. Texas toast is already cooked in that the bread is fully cooked, but the butter and seasonings applied to it have not been previously baked. It will be in a solid or paste like state upon removal from the package.
That said, itβs not the type of food that really needs to be cooked. Moreso, you want to warm the butter and brown the edges of the toast. It is not already cooked in the way you might consider toast a cooked piece of bread.
Recipe Pro Tips
- Make sure not to overlap the slices in your air fryer or youβll get soggy edges
- My Texas toast was perfect and just the right amount of crispy after 6 minutes in a Ninja air fryer. Other air fryers as well as personal preference on crunch level may cause times to vary slightly

Storage and Reheating
- Store leftover Texas toast in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Do not refreeze
- Reheat in the air fryer for 1-2 minutes at 350Β°F, or until warmed through. You may also microwave for 30 seconds, but it will lose its crispiness that way

Final Thoughts
Making frozen Texas toast in the air fryer is a quick and easy way to get a buttery, garlicky side dish on the table in under 10 minutes. It frees up your oven for other tasks (like lasagna!) but also keeps you from having to fire it up if you donβt want to.
Since it cooks directly from frozen, itβs easy to always have on hand as a convenient side dish for your favorite Italian and barbecue dishes, but it goes with a variety of other items as well.
Turn your leftovers into a sandwich thatβs amped up with additional flavor for an easy lunch the next day. You canβt go wrong when you start with garlic bread!
