Ingredients List

- 8.5 ounce box honey Jiffy muffin mix
- 3 bun length hot dogs, cut into quarters
- 1 Tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 2 Tbsp butter, melted
- ½ cup buttermilk (or regular milk)
Ingredient Tips and Substitutions
- I use all beef hot dogs, but you can use a mix, turkey dogs, or your favorite! Feel free to add more if you like, or cut them into small pieces and fold them into the batter for a more distributed bite
- The sugar can be swapped for brown sugar. You can omit it if preferred, but since corn dogs are inherently sweet, I feel it’s needed for “true” corn dog flavor!
- Add a little salt to taste if your butter is unsalted (¼ to ½ tsp is usually fine – the hot dogs are salty too)
- Feel free to customize with extras like diced jalapenos, roasted corn, ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese, 1 tsp BBQ seasoning (or similar – garlic powder, onion powder, and chili powder are also good options), or other similar items, which can be added into the batter
Equipment Note
You’ll need a muffin pan for this recipe. For the air fryer, you can use smaller muffin pans, or individual silicone muffin cups – whatever fits best into your specific air fryer! Anything that is oven safe is also air fryer safe.
This recipe makes one dozen corn dog muffins, so you may need to cook in batches depending on your specific air fryer’s size. I use a Ninja Dual Zone which fits all 12 at once in the individual cups.
Step By Step Instructions
- Grease your muffin pan (I use nonstick cooking spray; you can also use paper liners if preferred)
- In a large bowl, mix the Jiffy cornbread mix and the sugar together so it’s evenly distributed and free of clumps

- Beat or whisk the egg with the buttermilk and melted butter in a separate bowl until well mixed, then pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined

- Spoon the mixture into the greased muffin tin, filling each well about ⅔ full. They will rise during cooking; if you fill them higher than this, they’ll cover the hot dogs

- Press one hot dog piece into the center of each muffin

- Place the filled muffin cups into your air fryer in a single layer, allowing air space between them if you’re using individual cups

- Cook on the air fry setting at 350°F for 10 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and a toothpick inserted near the center (not in the hot dog) comes out clean
- Serve with your favorite condiments and sides. Enjoy!

Alternate Oven Directions
- Bake in an oven preheated to 400°F for 10-15 minutes, until golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the cornbread comes out clean

Recipe FAQs
Can I Freeze Homemade Corn Dog Muffins?
Yes, corn dog muffins freeze very well. Let them cool completely, then wrap individually or store in an airtight container or freezer bag. They’ll keep for about 2-3 months — just thaw and reheat in the oven or air fryer to bring back their fresh-baked texture!
What Is Corn Dog Batter Made Of?
Traditional corn dog batter is made from a mixture of yellow cornmeal, all purpose flour, sugar, baking powder, milk (or buttermilk), and eggs. This creates a slightly sweet, hearty coating that crisps up beautifully around the hot dog.
Can You Use Jiffy Cornbread Mix For Corn Dogs?
Absolutely! Jiffy cornbread mix is a popular shortcut for making corn dog muffins. It adds a lightly sweet, tender texture and saves time by combining many dry ingredients into one easy step.
Tips For the Best Corn Dog Muffins
- The batter will rise during cooking so try not to overfill the muffin cups
- If you have a stronger air fryer, it will tend to push the batter a little as it cooks, so you may not get perfectly rounded tops (but they’ll still be delicious)
- This recipe was made in my Ninja air fryer, and I do not preheat it. Other air fryers and sizes of muffin cups may cause cooking time to vary slightly, so adjust with additional time as needed for your specific setup
- Expect the tops of the muffins to be a darker brown when cooked in the air fryer versus the oven. This is one reason it’s cooked at a lower temperature in your air fryer as well!

Storage and Make Ahead
- Corn dog muffins are excellent for making ahead. You can bake them fully, let them cool, and then store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days (or the freezer for 2-3 months if you need something longer term)
- To reheat, pop them in a 300°F oven or the air fryer for a few minutes to restore their warm, slightly crisp texture. This makes them perfect for school lunches, quick meals, game day, snacks, or easy party prep!
Final Thoughts
These delicious corn dog muffins are like the classic fair food, in a smaller easy to eat format! They’re perfect for appetizers, lunches, game day, tailgating, cookouts, and more. Plus, they’re kid friendly and adult approved, so everyone will love them.
I make mine in the air fryer since it only takes about 10 minutes of cooking time, making it super convenient (and perfect for not firing up the oven on a hot day). However, the oven is just as good if you want to go that route too.
