Ingredients List

ingredients to make candy corn bark
  • 12 ounce bag orange candy melts
  • 12 ounce bag yellow candy melts
  • 12 ounces white candy melts or white chocolate chips
  • ½ cup candy corn (optional; skip if you don’t like it)
  • 4 ounce box Reese’s Pieces (remove the brown ones)

Ingredient Tips and Substitutions

  • You can also use all white chocolate or almond bark, and just add gel-based food coloring to tint it orange and yellow, but I like the candy melts since they’re pre-colored. You can absolutely adjust this recipe for a smaller amount by only using half bags as well
  • Instead of candy corn, you can add other autumn or Halloween sprinkles instead, or it’s a great use for leftover Halloween candy!
  • The Reese’s Pieces can be swapped for Halloween or fall-colored M&Ms if you need a non-peanut based option, or you can do candy eyeballs for a spooky look or sprinkle pretzels on top for a salty, crunchy pop
  • For a harvest candy corn variation, swap the yellow melts for brown, and remove the yellow Reese’s from the mix!

Step By Step Instructions

  1. Line a large baking sheet (or similar pan) with parchment paper, nonstick foil, or a silicone baking mat
  2. Add the orange, yellow, and white candy melts to 3 separate microwave-safe bowls. Using 3 is best because using one and rinsing it in between allows the first 1-2 chocolates to cool and set up too much
add yellow, orange, and white candy melts to three separate microwave safe bowls
  1. Microwave each one at 50% power (or the defrost setting) for 30 seconds, then stir. Repeat using additional 30 second increments until wafers are melted and smooth (it usually takes me 2 ½ – 3 minutes total per color in my 1000W microwave). Check your specific bag directions, as different brands may vary. Once the final color is done, check the first two to make sure they’re still smooth and easy to pour – give them a quick reheat if not (15 to 30 seconds should be plenty)

  1. Dollop or pour the melted chocolate onto the parchment paper or baking mat, alternating colors. Run a butter knife back and forth across the top (both vertically and horizontally) to create a marble design and even out the layers. I don’t recommend using a spatula to spread and level the colors, as they muddy together too much; you could tap the tray against the counter if you need extra help getting it leveled

  1. While still warm, add the candy corn and Reese’s pieces (or other decorative candies). Press gently to make sure they stick into the chocolate
while still warm add reeses pieces and candy corn to bark
  1. Transfer the chocolate to the fridge for about an hour (or the freezer for 30 minutes) until the bark is hardened and fully set
  2. Break into pieces (use your hands, a mallet, or a sharp knife) and enjoy!

Recipe FAQs

Is Bark The Easiest Candy To Make At Home?

It’s definitely one of the easiest! Most candy bark recipes simply involve melting chocolate, adding toppings, letting it set, and breaking it into pieces; no candy thermometer or complicated techniques required.

What’s The Actual Flavor Of Candy Corn?

Candy corn has a very sweet, sugary flavor with notes often described as vanilla, marshmallow, and honey. Its texture is soft and slightly waxy, which is part of what makes it so distinctive.

Why Do A Lot Of People Not Like Candy Corn?

Candy corn is a bit of a love-it-or-hate-it candy because it’s extremely sweet and has a unique texture. Some people also find the flavor artificial or the waxy texture less appealing than chocolate or chewy candy.

If you don’t like it, you can skip adding it as a topper for this recipe, and stick to only chocolate or peanut butter candies. The base bark itself isn’t flavored like candy corn.

Tips For the Best Candy Corn Bark

  • Exact cooking times (to melt the candy melts) will vary based on your microwave’s wattage and your bowl size (since it determines how deep the candy is). My times are based on testing with my 1000W microwave
  • Try to get the finished bark down to about ¼” to ½” thick at most. After that, it’s hard to break apart, and even harder to eat due to the thickness. Alternative your butter knife between horizontal and vertical drags to help it even out. Setting time will vary based on how thick it is as well, so if yours is very thick, it may take longer than I call for

Storage and Serving

Storage Tips

  • Store candy corn bark in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1-2 weeks
  • Keep it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat to prevent the chocolate from melting or becoming discolored
  • Place parchment or wax paper between layers if stacking pieces to prevent them from sticking together
  • Refrigerate only if your kitchen is warm. Let the bark come closer to room temperature before serving for the best texture
  • Freeze for longer storage in a freezer-safe container for up to 2-3 months. Thaw in the refrigerator or at room temperature before serving

Serving Tips

  • Break the bark into uneven pieces for that classic homemade look!
  • Add it to a Halloween dessert board with cookies, brownies, pretzels, and other festive treats
  • Package individual pieces in treat bags for party favors, classroom celebrations, or gifting
  • Use it as a dessert topper by adding small pieces to cupcakes, cookies, ice cream, or milkshakes

Make Ahead

If you’re making candy corn bark for a party, make it a few days ahead and store it in an airtight container. It keeps well, making it an easy make-ahead addition to your Halloween spread!

  • Candy Corn Strawberries
  • Candy Corn Fudge
  • Candy Corn Milkshake

Final Thoughts

Candy corn bark is such a fun Halloween, or general fall themed treat! It only takes 5 ingredients (but you can customize it with more or less as desired), and no baking required to make this easy dessert.

The bark itself isn’t candy corn flavored (despite the look), so if you don’t like the actual candy, just skip adding it on top and use other edible seasonal decor like sprinkles, candies, or even leftover Halloween candy!

I love the fact that it’s so easy to put together, and it keeps for at least a week so it’s great for make ahead. No more stressing when you’re hosting! Plus, kids and adults alike love it! For more easy dessert table options, check out all of my No Bake Halloween Treats!
