Why Make a Blueberry Vodka Lemonade?

Blueberries and lemon are a timeless combination, so it only makes sense to combine them together in this easy cocktail. Both flavors pair well with the clean, light flavor of vodka, making it a natural choice for the alcoholic component.

There are lots of occasions to serve a blueberry vodka lemonade, such as cookouts, beach parties, tailgates, picnics, pool parties, and any other summer gatherings. It’s easy to adjust the strength as desired, and a refreshing drink that’s the right balance of sweet and tart.

It’s one of those recipes that’s easily adaptable to use different ingredients, so you’re able to adjust based on what you have on hand or what the store has available. With just 2 core ingredients and a few minutes to assemble, it’s the perfect option for low-stress entertaining!

Blueberry Vodka Lemonade Ingredients

ingredients to make blueberry vodka lemonade cocktail

Single Serving

  • 2 ounces vodka
  • 4-6 ounces prepared blueberry lemonade (such as Simply Blueberry Lemonade), depending on glass size and strength preference
  • 6 fresh blueberries (optional)
  • Ice cubes

Pitcher Recipe

  • 2 cups vodka
  • 4 cups prepared blueberry lemonade
  • 4 ounces fresh blueberries (optional)
  • Ice cubes

Ingredient Tips and Substitutions

  • You can use plain vodka, but for extra flavor, choose blueberry or lemon (citron) vodka instead
  • If you can’t find blueberry lemonade, use plain lemonade and add 1-2 ounces of blueberry syrup (such as Torani, Monin, or Rose’s) for flavor. You can also muddle the fresh blueberries if you decide to use them to add flavor!
  • I find the lemonade is plenty sweet, but if you want a really sweet drink you can add some simple syrup to taste (start with no more than ½ ounce and adjust from there)
  • Garnishes are entirely optional, but can include a slice of lemon, skewer of blueberries, or a sprig of mint to add an herbal note

Blueberry Vodka Lemonade Variations

Herbal Infusion

Add fresh herbs like basil, mint, or rosemary to your blueberry vodka lemonade for a burst of aromatic flavor. Muddle the herbs gently with the vodka and/or fresh fruit to release their essential oils before topping with the lemonade

Fruit Medley

Add other fruits beyond just blueberries to create different combinations. Try strawberries, raspberries, or blackberries for a mixed berry twist, or add slices of citrus fruits like oranges or limes for a zesty kick!

Vodka Variations

Try using flavored vodkas such as vanilla, raspberry, blueberry, lemon (citron), or coconut to add unique undertones to the cocktail. You can also infuse your own vodka with fruits for a DIY option!

Fizzy Fun

Swap out half the lemonade for blueberry, lemon, or blueberry lemonade flavored unsweetened sparkling water. This will reduce the overall drink sweetness and add a fun and fizzy carbonated element! You could also use a blueberry and/or lemon flavored soda, but this will add additional sweetness

Mocktail

Enjoy the flavors of blueberry vodka lemonade without the alcohol! Start with blueberry lemonade (or add muddled blueberries or syrup to regular lemonade). Add blueberry or lemon sparkling water to add fizz and fun, and garnish with a sprig of mint or some fresh blueberries to make a fun mocktail

Step By Step Instructions For Spiked Lemonade

  1. Fill a highball glass of your choice with ice and any fresh fruit that you’d like to add to the drink, like lemon slices or fresh blueberries. You can also muddle fresh fruit in the bottom of the glass before adding ice, if desired

Recipe FAQs

How Do I Make Blueberry Vodka Lemonade?

Making blueberry vodka lemonade is easy! Simply mix vodka and blueberry lemonade together in a glass with ice, or in a pitcher. You can also use blueberry flavored vodka with regular lemonade.

For a more homemade alternative, muddle fresh blueberries with lemon juice, water, and simple syrup before adding the vodka.

Can I Use Frozen Blueberries for Blueberry Vodka Lemonade?

Yes, you can use frozen blueberries if you choose to add actual fruit to this cocktail. You can use them still completely frozen as an alternative to some of the ice to add color, flavor, and minimize dilution.

If you plan to muddle or blend your blueberries with the other ingredients, thaw them first to ensure a smooth consistency.

What Type of Vodka Works Best for Blueberry Vodka Lemonade?

Any type of vodka can be used for blueberry vodka lemonade, but a neutral-flavored vodka is generally preferred to allow the blueberry and lemon flavors to shine.

However, a blueberry or lemon (citron) flavored vodka can add additional depth, or work as a substitution option if one of the other ingredients isn’t available to deliver the same flavors overall.

Can I Make Blueberry Vodka Lemonade Ahead of Time?

You can mix the blueberry lemonade and vodka in a pitcher up to 48 hours in advance, and store it in the refrigerator. If you plan to use fresh fruit, add that no more than 24 hours in advance.

Add ice, garnishes, and any carbonated elements desired just before serving for maximum freshness.

Are There Non-Alcoholic Alternatives for Blueberry Vodka Lemonade?

Yes, you can make a non-alcoholic version of blueberry vodka lemonade simply by omitting the vodka. To make a more interesting mocktail, add sparkling water for fizz.

Garnish with fresh berries or a sprig of mint to add interest and flavor to the drink.

Can I Customize the Sweetness of Blueberry Vodka Lemonade?

Absolutely! You can adjust the sweetness of blueberry vodka lemonade to your preference. For a less sweet drink, replace half the lemonade with a complimentary flavored unsweetened sparkling water, or make homemade lemonade to control the sugar levels.

For a sweeter option, add simple syrup or a blueberry flavored syrup, or a natural sweetener like agave or honey to your tastes.

What Occasions Are Ideal for Serving Blueberry Vodka Lemonade?

Blueberry vodka lemonade is perfect for summer gatherings, picnics, barbecues, or any occasion where you want to cool off and enjoy a refreshing cocktail.

Its vibrant color and fruity flavor make it a hit for both spring and summer!

Can I Experiment with Different Fruits in Blueberry Vodka Lemonade?

Feel free to experiment with the addition of different fruits such as strawberries, raspberries, or blackberries to create your own unique mixed berry variations of a blueberry vodka lemonade.

You can also try different flavors of lemonade or vodka to create a mixed berry variation. Some examples might be raspberry vodka with blueberry lemonade, or blueberry vodka with strawberry lemonade.

Blueberry Vodka Lemonade Recipe Tips

  • You can add more or less vodka if desired to reduce or increase the strength of the drink. As written, I find it pretty middle of the road, but it’s certainly adjustable!
  • I prefer large cubes of ice for this recipe, since they melt slower so they don’t dilute your drink as much. You can also use some frozen blueberries in place of some of the ice to add color and flavor without dilution!

Storage and Serving Tips

  • I use Collins glasses, but any style of highball glass works well, such as pint glasses or even mason jars! You may need to adjust the amount of lemonade you add based on the size, or your strength preferences
  • You can combine the blueberry lemonade and vodka in a pitcher up to 48 hours in advance. Store in the refrigerator, then add ice to individual glasses (plus any fresh fruit) just before serving
